Chapter 1
Pull it up on screen.
As soon as He ordered, He could see what the sentries were talking about.
Walking alone, a cloaked stranger strolled through the forest, towards the
keep. An intruder, walked towards His keep.
Sendout, the Reaper.
All around him, the forest was deathly silent, save for the quiet footsteps of
the lone cloaked stranger, slowly walking along the path. No birds chirping, no
crickets calling, all was quiet in the dark of night.
That was, until a group marched out from further along the path. Ten half
machine, half human acolytes guarded an enormous, red armoured male. The
males face was a beautiful sight to behold. From his back, four mechanical
arms extended from a steel back pack he carried, all of them ending in talons.

Rested upon his shoulder was a huge axe with the symbol of the omnissiah
upon it.
The males eyes were intent upon the stranger walking through the woods.
Fine sir, I must ask you to halt, in the name of my divine master
The male had a magnificent voice. The stranger looked up, his cloak still hiding
his face. He replied with a firm voice.
And which master would that be.
The divine arch magos, ruler of this world and the living incarnation of the
omnissiah. What is your business here?
I come to speak to your divine master. These words were basically spat out.
The male looked at the stranger, undaunted by his arrogance.
What business does a lowly cur like you have to attend to with one as holy as
the arch magos.
The figure looked up, revealing a wide-mouthed grin across his face. He threw
off his cloak, revealing a mighty figure of massive proportions in gigantic redterminator armour. In his left hand, was a battered wooden shield, completely
out of place with everything of the figure except the battered fur cloak around
his shoulders. In his right hand was a massive hammer, the head that of a
massive golden wolf.
One of war said Ornula, Guardian of Sanctity, Lord Commander and 1st
captain of the red wolves space marine chapter.
Call them back, now! He yelled.
All around him, the command room was chaotic, with multiple acolytes
gathering huge energy reading that were not visible before, like massively
increased signature, energy readings coming from the figures armour and so
on.
We cant, my lord, the message signal is blocked. Nothing is getting through.

He was taken aback; not expecting revenge from the Imperium for many
months maybe even years, but only a few weeks afterwards was far too soon.
There was no reason to show his surprise to his underlings.
My lord, multiple contacts appearing rapidly approaching from further within
the forest, its an entire tank convoy!
This was even worst. Of course a space marine would not be alone; very few
chapters sent single members to battle. This was bad, but he could still cope.
My lord, energy readings are spiking even higher than before, something bad
is coming planetside.
A sudden flash illuminated the darkest part of the forest for miles around.
Where before there had been a single terminator, there were now five more,
all in ornate armour, the newcomers each sporting a pair of lightning claws.
I am assuming your master wasnt expecting this, and I assume he can see this
through that screen over there.
Ornula pulled a melta gun from under his cloak, firing it in the instant it cameout. Where a camera had been seconds ago, there was just molten sludge. His
shield and hammer were locked to his armour.
Or maybe he was looking through that one.
A second blast, a second disintegrated camera. After a few more moments,
every camera along the roadway had been reduced to molten scrap.
Now I am assuming that you have all had your eyes removed like the suckersyou are and had them replaced with augmentics that you and your con artist
can see through. So are aware of the fact that I have to kill you now
They allow us to see through the eyes of gods! screamed one of the red
robed acolytes.
Ornula turned his gaze to the servant, who surprisingly held his gaze.
Well then, let me show you what happens to the people who willingly followfalse gods.

No one even saw the gun turn and fire on the acolyte. What they did see
though was him and the guys behind him both get their heads blown off and
topple to the ground. All of the other acolytes spread out and moved away
aghast.
How dare you defile this sacred place with your blasphemies, lapdog.
The male spoke with absolute authority and calmness, albeit with a bitter tone.
Ornula switched his gaze back to him.
And what is your name, machine
I am more righteous than you will ever be, an example of perfection between
the human sate and the machine state.
Enough of the boring speeches, yourname, machine
If you must know, I am designated as the reaper, diplomat of the arch magos,
one of the few blessed enough to be allowed to use his name, a name you
should not even refer to barbarian. The human put one of its servo-arms to its
face, ripping off the mask there and revealing a skull of pure metal, with
baleful red eyes staring through.
I said enough machine. Ill let you know why Im here. Im here to give you all
redemption. I am here, to avenge the billions of innocent souls of the sub
sector who were murdered because of their belief in a true faith, for not being
gullible idiots. I am here, to end the pathetic lives of false preachers such as
yourself and your heretical puppet master.
Then prove it, whelp!
Ornula sprung into action immediately, bringing his hammer and shield to
ready, at the same time as running towards the Reaper. By his side, the
command squad did the same.
The first acolyte in the way was smashed by his shield, and surprisingly the
acolytes head broke instead of the shield. The second acolyte was kicked in the
chest, shattering his mechanical rib cage and ending his pathetic existence.

Then before he knew it, the Reaper was on him, their reflexes equal. All four
arms darted out from the servo harness, all turned back from the power of the
iron halo on the captains back. The huge axe swung down, met by the
hammer.
The weapons remained locked.
See what you miss out on lackey, this strength that you could have much
easier to obtain than through your precious gene-seed.
I would not give up my soul for it. You are an affront to the omnissiah, beast.
The combatants leapt back, weapons ready. They circled, the combat around
them all ready ended by the command squad. The other terminators watchedon out of respect for the traditions of single combat.
The Reaper snapped out with all of his servo talons, easily parried by the
captains hammer. The axe came in a downward arc, aimed to crush through
the upheld shield and the captains head.
The shield met the blow head on. The surface of the shield shimmered with a
reactive force, knocking the Reaper into the air and back on to the ground.
Ornula looked directly into the eyes of the Reaper.
You are through, puppet master.
The entire command room was suffused in intense light, the melta gun
carrying intense light at such close range. Half of the acolytes were quickly
replaced and all cameras shut off.
He sat, watching it all.
My lord, what are your orders.
The acolyte who asked the question had his eyes turned away, out of
reverence of Him. Even though he could only just see a sliver of the mans
eyes, he could see the fear.

Get Orator prepared, along with the defences. Assemble my bodyguard. We
will hold this keep and kill them all!
The acolyte nearly looked up, the enthusiasm clear in his eyes. The man had
obviously wanted to see the Orator in a fight for ages. Too bad he didnt know
what the orders truly meant.
Fenris fury, reporting for service, Lord Commander.
In front of Ornula, the massive land raider stood testament and idol of
everything astartes meant. Huge, fearsome, holy, all in equal measure. Truly,
he was honoured to be carried to battle in its hold. Come dawn, he would beglad to have the Furys armoured hide between him and the heavy weapons of
the enemy.
I want adamantium fury formation arranged. Vindicators at the front. They
will force the breach. They will then provide short range support Predators will
provide long range support. While they soften the enemy up, I will lead the
first in our Crusaders to tie the enemy up. A few moments later, I want 8th
company under Captain Thorian to deploy as usual and to take out the anti airdefences. Four assault squads will then deploy by thunderhawk and hunt down
their titan.
What is the time limit for each goal Lord Commander?
Ornula turned to Thorian.
Ten minutes for the anti-air, twenty for the titan. If you encounter resistance,
send in the speeders. Further questions?
He looked around the table.
What about the skitarii templars?
Every eye turned to scout sergeant Cormac, the only space marine present
more experienced then captain Ornula.
The adamantium legion will deploy as soon as we have the where abouts of
their accursed leader and his bodyguard.

Thank you, I look forward to seeing revenge for the people of Vollafall.
Captain Ornula looked around the table. His champion Pradian, Captain
Thorian, scout sergeant Cormac, chaplain Xeran and a few other sergeants
from each company looked back.
That concludes. Chaplain, please conduct the pledge.
With honour
The black clad chaplain stepped forward, his ever present crozius in his left
hand, his always closed fist the other.
We are the wolves of Fenris
The circle beat their chests with their right hand as one.
We are the wolves of Medusa
The circle beat their chests with their right hand as one.
We are the wolves of Iron
The circle beat their chests with their right hand as one.
Our steel has been tempered by war and sacrifice
The circle beat their chests with their right hand as one.
Let ourtempered steel be death
As dawn crawled across the horizon, so did the tanks of the Red Wolves. They
had not stopped since the meeting the night before, driving all night, not that
the astartes needed the sleep. By full dawn, they were a wall of adamantium
along the plains, just inside the cover of the forest. Wait until the heretics saw
their fury.
Lord Commander, we are ready on your order.

Pradian was just inside the door of the Fury. Ornula took one last look at the
keep and the thousands of machine men manning the wall and safely within its
bounds. All he was about to slay in an hour.
Commence the bombardment.
A few seconds later, the keep was in chaos. Just before the bombardment hit,
most defenders lost their stability, a lot of light equipment drifted into the air
and terror was rife. Then, the bombardment hit. From the sky, lances of energy
plummeted towards the keep, destroying much of the interior. One stray shot
hit the armoury, causing a catastrophic chain reaction, killing over a hundred
unfortunate souls nearby. Fires raged rampant throughout the establishment.
Some of the defenders left the wall to stop the damage spreading. This was
when the Red Wolves struck.
Like lightning, three vindicators created a ten metre wide breach in the west
wall, diverting all the reinforcements to the focal point. The vindicators
peppered shells around the destroyed section until ten land raider crusaders
reached the wall, led by the land raider redeemer Fenris Fury. One hundred
and sixteen terminators leapt out, covered by the fire of the land raiders.
Nearly nothing in the universe could stop a first company of astartes.
While the defenders tried to deal with the terminators, the vindicators
breached another ten metre section of the wall to the east, allowing half of the
8th
company to run rampant from their rhinos within the keeps walls. Within
ten minutes of the second d breach, the anti-air defences had been taken out.
Lord Commander, there has been no sign of the titan, should thunderhawks
commence strafing runs.
The display told Ornula it was Thorian talking to him. This was concerning
news.
Have you found the central command room then.

Yes, but the skitarii templarsdefend it. There are also some mesh of ogryn
and machines guarding it. They are all filthy abominations.
Nonetheless, we must be cautious. I am heading to your positionnow; there
has been heavy resistance but little fight.
Acknowledged
He watched the battle unfolding through numerous view screens. The tide
was against him, but the battle was nowhere near over. He still had a few
trump cards to play, to destroy the astartes or cause them as much pain before
he fled. Most likely the latter at the moment.
Sir, should we reveal the weapon.
The voice of the skitarii marshals grated against his ears. At least He had kept
his own voice box.
Not yet, wait until they bring in the rest of their troops from air.
There are more of them!?
The marshal who knew no fear was not afraid, but surprised. Not surprise in
itself after how much damage the damn astartes had done in their first few
minutes in the city.
Prepare my aircraft, but prepare your men to fight to the death.
Before him, the majesty of half of the 8th
and the entire first mazed him. Nowonder, they had just fought a fight that a guard force five times their
numbers would have reached stalemate and come through it without any
casualties. Soon they will have one a great victory. He would make sure they
took no casualties in the process. He knew the style of the enemy
Lord Commander, do we bring the thunder hawks in yet.

Thorian stood beside him, on the roof of a building just outside of the enemies
command centre. The building in front of them was massive, but severely
undermanned.
No, he is assuming we will bring our dreadnoughts and thunder hawks first
before we assault, blow them dead with a gun inside the command centre and
then fight us piecemeal through the doorway.
I would argue, but you have been on his tail for years. What should we do?
He looked at the enemy ready to fight to the death, then to his astartes, ready
to fight to the death.
Bring forththe vindicators.
He was surprised. The moment the tanks startedpounding the command
centre, he knew it was the end.
Sir, should we charge.
He looked at the marshal, knew his loyalty, then made a decision.
Tell everyone who can fit to board the ships. We are from thousand to under
a hundred now. About half of us can fit in the three escape transports.
Everyone else can stay behind and charge the enemy to tie them up.
I will give the order sir.
He is about to launch an attack to distract us so he can board a vehicle andescape to a nearby port, then go into space and rendezvous with his fleet.
He looked at the keep and sure enough, fifty templars came charging out,
heading to the vindicators. They were the elite of the arch magos, vowed to
the omnissiah as warriors for centuries. Their bodies were made to wield their
two handed axes to a supernatural skill. They were dead in seconds. One of
them surprisingly made it, before the vindicator stopped firing for a second
and rolled over the puny figure trying to scratch its paintwork with its axe.

Any moment now.
Were ready to go sir
The marshal stood next to him. There were very few orders to give now.
Deploy the smoke launchers
Were before there had been a building, now there was just a pall of smoke, so
dark that not even astartes vision could pierce it.
Get out of the smoke, hes trying to escape! We cannot let him escape again!
Ornula started running, a blur through the smoke. Before he knew it, he was
before the doors. He barged through, smashing the barring in an instant. In
front of him, a valkyrie was setting off, the exit in the roof only just large
enough to incorporate its wingspan. Looking out of the side door was the arch
magos.
Ornula started running again, just as the turbines roared into operation. Hecould see the arch magos reaching in his jacket for a small device, pressing a
button on it. In an instant, Ornulas armour was mag-locked to the ground.
You cannot flee forever traitor!
Over the roar of the valkyries engines, he could hear the soulless sound of a
lunatics laughter.
I want him found now!
Ornula slammed his hammer into a nearby screen, shattering it into hundreds
of tiny fragments. Everyone around the table shuffled uneasily. They knew
what the Lord Commander asked was impossible and he probably did to. There
was suddenly silence as Ornula stared at the ground. Thorian was the first to
break the silence.
Lord Commander, we will catch him, we just need to be patient is all.

Ornula looked at Thorian, still seething with rage. If Thorian knew fear, he
would be feeling it right about now.
Patience. Have patience! I had patience until that heretic killed millions of
people! I had patience until he destroyed world after world, defiling everything
we hold dear! I had patience, until after thirty years I finally found him, and he
escapes while laughing in my face! How can anyone keep their patience
through that!
Ornula suddenly calmed, his eyes glittering with what could have been tears.
Thorian had slightly moved back.
Im sorry Thorian. You didnt deserve that and I hope you canforgive me,
though if you dont I understandand respect that decision.
Lord Commander, there is nothing to forgive. You just voiced the thoughts
playing on all of our minds and it is you who has suffered the most from him. If
anything, I apologise to you for the fact that we havent captured him yet.
Thorian swept his arms around the room, gesturing to the entire scene around
them. In specific, he gestured to a huge gun in the centre of the room. It was
formed from multiple super charged hydra flak cannons.
If it were not for you then that gun would have taken down half my company.
If it were not for your masterful leadership this triumphant, no matter how
hallow, victory, would have turned out to be a massacre for our forces. Even if
we had won today, it would not have been worth that price.
Ornula looked up at the gun. He sighed.
Thorian stiffened suddenly.
Thorian, are you okay.
Youre definitely not going to be happy about this.
Are you insane?
Captain Octavius stood his ground against the Lord Commander, stoic andunmoving, just like his devastators.

You know as well as I do this is well beyond my power. The orders came from
the chapter master and it is your duty to follow them
