SECTION 4: FIRST AID MEASURES
4.1. Description of first aid measures
General informationGet medical attention. Perform artificial respiration if breathing has stopped. Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance.InhalationRemove victim immediately from source of exposure. Provide fresh air, warmth and rest, preferably in a comfortable upright sitting position. If breathing stops, provide artificial respiration.IngestionDO NOT INDUCE VOMITING! If vomiting occurs, keep head low so that stomach content doesn't get into the lungs. Never give liquid to an unconscious person. Get medical attention.Skin contactRemove contaminated clothing and flush with plenty of water until pain disappears. If discomfort persists transport to hospital and bring these instructions.Eye contactImmediately flush with plenty of water for up to 15 minutes. Remove any contact lenses and open eyes wide apart. Immediately transport to hospital or eye specialist.
4.2. Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed
General informationIf adverse symptoms develop as described the casualty should be transferred to hospital as soon as possible.InhalationRespiratory irritant effects that impair function with symptoms such as cough, pain, choking, and breathing difficulties.IngestionHarmful if swallowed.Skin contactSkin irritation. Prolonged or repeated contact with used oil may cause serious skin diseases, such as dermatitis.Eye contactMay cause severe irritation to eyes.
4.3. Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
No recommendation given, but first aid may still be required in case of accidental exposure, inhalation or ingestion of this chemical. If in doubt, GET MEDICAL ATTENTION PROMPTLY!
SECTION 5: FIREFIGHTING MEASURES
5.1. Extinguishing media
93 /
-
RO IM C346Extinguishing mediaExtinguish with alcohol-resistant foam, carbon dioxide, dry powder or water fog.Unsuitable extinguishing mediaWater jet.
5.2. Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
Hazardous combustion productsDuring fire, toxic gases (CO, CO2) are formed. Sulphurous gases (SOx).Unusual Fire & Explosion HazardsFLAMMABLE.Specific hazardsWhen heated and in case of fire, harmful vapours/gases may be formed. Closed containers can burst violently when heated, due to excess pressure build-up.
5.3. Advice for firefighters
Special Fire Fighting ProceduresSpillages or uncontrolled discharges into watercourses must be IMMEDIATELY alerted to the Environmental Agency or other appropriate regulatory body.Protective equipment for fire-fightersSelf contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing must be worn in case of fire.
SECTION 6: ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
6.1. Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
For personal protection, see section 8. Do not breathe vapour. Do not smoke, use open fire or other sources of ignition. Take precautionary measures against static discharges.
6.2. Environmental precautions
Do not allow ANY environmental contamination. Do not discharge into drains, water courses or onto the ground. Contain spillages with sand, earth or any suitable adsorbent material. Use appropriate containment to avoid environmental contamination. Ensure electrical continuity by bonding and grounding (earthing) all equipment.
6.3. Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
Contain spillage with sand or earth. Self-contained breathing apparatus with full facepiece. Containers with collected spillage must be properly labelled with correct contents and hazard symbol. Do not flush road with water. Contain contaminated water/ firefighting water For waste disposal, see section 13.
6.4. Reference to other sections
For personal protection, see section 8. For waste disposal, see section 13.
SECTION 7: HANDLING AND STORAGE
7.1. Precautions for safe handling
Keep away from heat, sparks and open flame. Ventilate well, avoid breathing vapours. Use approved respirator if air contamination is above accepted level. Good personal hygiene is necessary. Wash hands and contaminated areas with water and soap before leaving the work site. Properly dispose of any contaminated rags or cleaning materials in order to prevent fires. Avoid spilling, skin and eye contact. Flammable/combustible material.
7.2. Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
Avoid inhalation of vapours and contact with skin and eyes. Store in tightly closed original container in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Drums should be stacked to a maximum of three high. Store in a demarcated bunded area to prevent release to drains and/or watercourses. Vapours are heavier than air and may travel along the floor and in the bottom of containers. Contaminated rags and cloths must be put in fireproof containers for disposal. Avoid exposure to high temperatures or direct sunlight. Do not use compressed air or oxygen for filling, discharging or handling. May explode in a fire. Keep containers tightly closed. Suitable containers: mild steel, stainless steel. Do NOT use container made of: Rubber, neoprene or PVC. Do not subject to grinding/shock/friction.Storage ClassFlammable liquid storage.
