On behalf of Maritime Forces Pacific and Joint Task Force Pacific, it is my great pleasure to welcome the Captain and crew of United States Ship (USS) Nimitz to Victoria. The Royal Canadian Navy and the United States Navy enjoy a tremendous and important friendship that dates back to our origins. Our navies have the highest level of interoperability and we have worked ‘side by side’ in operations and training to ensure peace and security at home and abroad. Your visit to Victoria highlights this strong and mutually respectful relationship. It is also a testament to the importance of the strategic partnership between our two countries; one that is long-standing, well- entrenched and highly successful. My wife, Brenda, and I join in wishing you and your families a relaxing visit in this great Navy town of Victoria, and hope that you will enjoy your time here. I know that the citizens of Victoria are honoured by your presence and stand ready to assist you during your stay. Enjoy! Yours Aye, Rear-Admiral Bill Truelove Commander, Maritime Forces Pacific Royal Canadian Navy A welcoming message from the Admiral As Commander of Carrier Strike Group ELEVEN, it is with great pleasure that I bring my flagship, USS Nimitz, and her crew of nearly 3,000 sailors, to Victoria. We look forward to enjoying the gracious hospitality of the Canadian people and thank you for your efforts in making our stay a pleasant and memorable port visit. The alliance between our two countries has strengthened both our nations’ maritime defenses and created a friendship that enables us to collectively respond to any issue. This weekend, you will see men and women of Carrier Strike Group ELEVEN building on that history as they volunteer in your community, take part in friendly competitions at sporting events, but mostly, as they enjoy kindling new friendships with the citizens of Victoria. On Nimitz, our motto is, “Teamwork—a tradition.” I can think of no better way to describe the relationship between our two countries. Visits like this one go a long way in reinforcing the friendship our nations have built over generations. It is a friendship that has enabled us to keep our oceans safe and respond as a team to meet any challenge. Over these three days, the crew and I look forward to meeting with you and getting involved with your communities through a variety of events.
