Romans 5:12

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—

II. Understand that you cannot perfect yourself (13-14)

Page 30: Rediscover Grace- Evangelism

Romans 5:13-14

To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law. 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.

Page 31: Rediscover Grace- Evangelism

I. Acknowledge that you are a sinner before God (12)

A. Sin precedes the Law.

Page 32: Rediscover Grace- Evangelism

I. Acknowledge that you are a sinner before God (12)

A. Sin precedes the Law.B. The Law only teaches us God moral standard- and what sin is.

Page 33: Rediscover Grace- Evangelism

I. Acknowledge that you are a sinner before God (12)

A. Sin precedes the Law.B. The Law only teaches us God moral standard- and what sin is.C. Man is incapable of living up to that standard by his own efforts.

Page 34: Rediscover Grace- Evangelism

Romans 8:3-4

For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

III. Accept that God’s Grace alone brings the righteousness

that leads to eternal life.

Page 41: Rediscover Grace- Evangelism

Romans 5:15-21

But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! 16 Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification.

Page 42: Rediscover Grace- Evangelism

Romans 5:15-21

17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!

Page 43: Rediscover Grace- Evangelism

Romans 5:15-21

18 Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. 19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.

Page 44: Rediscover Grace- Evangelism

Romans 5:15-21

20 The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, 21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Phillip Zimbardo from Stanford University in Pal Alto

• Conducted the Stanford Prison Experiment. • An experimental prison in the basement of

the Stanford Psychology building. • One group was to play the role as prisoners-

the others to play the role as guards. • Within six days the guard’s reign of terror

over the prisoners forced them to end the experiment.

Page 53: Rediscover Grace- Evangelism

The experiment proved that everyone has a disposition

toward evil and certain contexts can bring that disposition out.

Page 54: Rediscover Grace- Evangelism
Page 55: Rediscover Grace- Evangelism

APPLICATION

• There have not been or ever will be any utopias since the fall in that evil is in all of us. We treat men with dignity because they are created in God’s image but we accept that sin has distorted that image so man cannot recreate Eden.

Page 56: Rediscover Grace- Evangelism

APPLICATION

• You cannot attain God’s righteousness on your own. You are not God. Only one person is the unique God/Man and that is Jesus Christ. When we accept and trust Him he grants (imputes) to us his righteousness. From that point on God sees us through Christ and treats us as His own.

Page 57: Rediscover Grace- Evangelism

APPLICATION

• Our only hope against our propensity toward sin is the grace of God. We must accept his free gift and allow him to change us from the inside out. While it may take years for it change us outside the inside change is immediate.

Matt Chandler: The Explicit Gospel

In the middle of our conversation, seemingly out of nowhere, she asked me, "Do you think I'm a dirty rose?" My heart sank inside of me, and I began to explain to her the whole weight of the gospel of Jesus Christ is that Jesus wants the rose. It's Jesus' desire to save, redeem, and restore the dirty rose.
