Assessment/Data Collection

Intervention: Staff Education

Intervention: Resetting Default Alarm Parameters

Intervention: Changing Alarm Parameters on a Patient-Specific Basis

Re-Assessment/Results

We took our results first to our unit and then submitted a poster to our hospital’s annual Evidence-Based Practice Poster Competition and won first place.

We then brought our project to the 2014 SCHA Nursing Excellence Conference for the EBP Poster Competition and won first place.

Dissemination

Conclusion

We were able to achieve a 90% reduction in total alarms by reducing the number of clinically insignificant alarms and thus decreased the risk of alarm fatigue.
