While being hesitant to report a crime is understandable, it is essential for the pol ice to be advised when crimes occur to be better able to protect the publ ic. Here are some tips to ass ist you: PREVENT ION Personal DO NOT cany large amounts of cash ; DO NOT travel alone. There is safety in numbers; DO stay ale rt and be aware of your surroundings; DO stay in well-lit areas. Child Never open the door to a stranger; Never take anything from a stranger ; Never talk to a stranger; Never give your name or address to a stranger; If a stranger tries to follow or grab you RUN AWAY AND SCREAM! Vehicle DO NOT leave your keys in your car, on or off; DO NOT leave any valuable items in your car; DO NOT pick up strangers ; DO lock vehide windows and doors; DO park your vehide in well-lit areas. Home DO NOT l eave windows or doors open/unlocke<l if you are away; DO NOT enter your house if you see evidence of a burglary . Call 911 and wait elseWhere for police arrival. The City of Oxnard Police Department is working with the community to e<lucate people reference reporting crime or reporting being a Victim of a crime.
