Friendship Day 2013
Friendship Day will soon be here! February 17th. One week from Sunday. Friendship Day generates an opportunity for us to invite and encourage others to come and worship with us at WE. It provides an avenue that we might ask others to come and share the Lord with us. It creates an atmosphere of energy as we are all striving together toward a common event and common goal. And it uplifts us as God works in the hearts of those who call this church their “home” and as He ministers to the hearts of those who are visiting with us on the day. On February 17th we will also unpack a vision for the West Erwin Church of Christ that we pray will grant us renewed focus as we each minister courageously and effectively in the Kingdom of God. I ask you to continue to pray for our day together. To pray that the goodness of God and wonder of His Kingdom would be evident in all that we are about on Friendship Day. I ask that you encourage others to come and share in our worship, as we praise our Father together, and as we connect and fellowship with one another. There are cards available at the Information center (please take as many as you’d like this Sunday) that provide the schedule of the day, as well as contact information. Classes @ 9am. Worship @ 10am. Lunch provided in the Family Life Center immediately following worship. No evening services. Small groups meeting that evening. All with the intentional goal in mind of revival and blessing. Striving to live closer to our God. I leave you with these words from AW Tozer, “Revival and blessing come to the Church when we stop looking at a picture of God and look at God Himself. Revival comes when, no longer satisfied just to know about a God in history, we meet the conditions of finding Him in living, personal experience.” Glory to God! Jason

FROM THE MIND OF ERIC… LTC, LTC, LTC… it has begun hasn’t it folks? The convention is less than two months away, but we are now in full swing here at WE practicing and preparing. From dramas, to puppets, chorus, Bible quiz and individual events, there’s a lot going on in preparation for our 3rd-12th graders. And with over 90 of them participating this year, it’s the largest family involved event that West Erwin does together. And that to me is the coolest part. There are multiple things about LTC that make it a great thing for our church family. It helps instill Biblical values and standards in our children from a young age that carries with them through high school. However, as we all know, simply “coming” to a worship service or participating in events doesn’t necessarily draw us closer to Christ. So we’d like to ask you to pray for our teens and their coaches during this LTC season. Not that they might draw high marks from the judges at the convention, but more importantly that this experience would foster a desire in their hearts to be drawn closer to Christ and to the hope, grace, and deliverance we share in Him. We covet your prayers!

Now You See Him, Now You Don’t
Peter wrote his letters to give hope and encouragement to those that were facing persecution because of their faith. He was speaking of Jesus when he wrote, Though you have not seen him, you love him (1 Peter 1:8). Those he wrote to were in the same position as us; they did not have the opportunity to see Jesus in the flesh. Yet they loved him, even as much as those that knew Jesus. They loved him because they believed the story of Jesus, and they loved him because of the conviction of the apostle’s testimony. They loved him because of the hope that Jesus brought into their lives. Consider the rest of

the verse, Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls (1 Peter 1:8-9). God wants all mankind to have the joy of salvation in their lives and to see and accept Jesus for who he is and the part he plays in God’s plan. For some, the only way they see Jesus is seeing how Christians reflect Him. As Christians, it is our responsibility to show Jesus to others. We need to understand the importance of a steady, consistent, faithful walk with Jesus. The world needs to see us as a people that have a strong faith in the Lord. They need to see us as a joyous people because of what Jesus brings to our lives. They need to see us as a people that are confident in life with the ability to handle the “rough spots”. They need to see us as being like Jesus all the time and not just at worship times. When others are looking for Jesus in you, do they see Jesus all the time, or is it a “Now you see Him, now you don’t”?

There is a flag line and lots of clapping & cheering to welcome our soldiers home. Each soldier also receives a gift.
