Viatera® AdvantagesStain-Resistant

Viatera® is made primarily of natural quartz (93%) which is an impervious crystalline mineral that is particularly resistant to absorption. When adhered with the polymer resins, Viatera® becomes a material that is non-porous and extremely stain resistant, qualities that are unique to quartz materials. Unlike other products, Viatera® does not require the application of a sealant to ensure its non-porous attribute.

Scratch-Resistant

Natural quartz, the majority of the Viatera® makeup, is classified as a 7 on Moh’s Hardness Scale, a scientific tool utilized to measure the composition of minerals. Such a ranking indicates quartz is harder than iron and titanium, and there are few materials with higher ranking, including diamonds. This quality makes Viatera® resistant to scratching.

Heat-Resistant

The durability of Viatera® is capable of enduring heat from normal cooking temperatures up to 360o for a short duration. Hot pads and trivets are recommended to protect the surface and prolong the product lifetime. Do not place high-heat cookware, such as electric skillets, frying pans, griddles or crock-pots, directly on the surface without the use of a protective base.

Advantages of Viatera® vs. Granite

Viatera® offers unparalleled quality to any design project. Due to the clarity of the quartz stone, and the patented, advanced technology of polymer resins and colorfast pigments, Viatera® provides a durable surface that is non-porous, and resistant to heat, scratches and stains. All 45 colors were inspired by the natural beauty of the earth and are backed by a 15-year transferable warranty.

Color Selection

Each of the 54 Viatera® colors were inspired by the raw beauty of the earth and named after different stunning regions throughout the world. The palette contains colors that vary from soft and serene to passionate and intense. The clarity of the natural quartz particulates provide a beauty that can not be achieved by other manufacturing methods or techniques.

Consistency in Color

The manufacturing process of Viatera® melds nature and modern technology into an unparalleled surfacing material. The color of each Viatera® slab is dependent on the natural materials as well as the colors mixed within the resin binder. The manufacturing process is designed to blend the raw materials in such a way as to imitate the look of natural stone. As with any product made with predominantly natural materials, there can be some variation in background color and pattern, as well as aggregate size and distribution. Pigment concentrations can occur up to the size of a US quarter dollar. All of this serves to enhance the natural characteristics of the quartz surface material and is in no way to be considered a defect. Variations to be expected will typically be greater than in solid surface but less than in granite. Color, background or shade variations not visible from 6 feet away are considered acceptable.

Finish

The factory applied finish to all Viatera® slabs is a polished finish. The quartz in the material takes a high polish, however the polymer resin binder does not. Therefore the over all gloss level on a Viatera® slab will be between 47 and 57, as measured with a gloss meter. By comparison, a slab of granite will generally register between 80 and 90 on a gloss meter. As a result of the manufacturing process, small voids can occur, ranging in size from microscopic to 1.5 mm (the size of a pinhead). These in no way affect the integrity of the slab nor do they have any impact on the porosity of the material as they do not extend more than 1 mm in depth. Do not apply waxes or sealers to the Viatera® surface. These products will not absorb into the material and will only cause build up on the surface.

Are seams visible when using Viatera®?

Yes, seams are made during the installation process however the countertop pieces are placed as closely together as possible and bonded together with color-coordinated resin. Viatera® is not a seamless product, seams are visible. A well executed seam will be smooth but can be felt. Due to slight thickness variations and tolerances, it is possible that one side of the seam may be raised. Where there are seams, the product pattern and shade can change.

The exact number of seams in a countertop will depend on the shape of the countertop and whether or not you specifically request fewer or no seams. Please note that requests for fewer or no seams will increase the square footage units that must be purchased, thereby increasing the price. A certified Fabricator Installer can show you exactly where seams will be located on your countertop.

Are lamination lines visible when using Viatera®?

Just like other stone surfaces, lamination lines may be visible depending on the requirements of the project. Viatera® is available in two different thicknesses, 3/4” (2 cm) and 1 1/8” (3 cm). As with all stone products, a lamination line is visible when two pieces of material are adhered together to create a thicker edge, like the 1 1/2” (4 cm) front edge.

Fine Craftsmanship

Viatera® is fabricated by a network of certified fabricators and installers.

Natural Quartz Product Awareness The Natural Quartz Product Awareness Sheet has been created to ensure that you understand the features and benefits of natural quartz and are familiar with the templating, tear-out and installation process. In making sure you are informed, we hope to ensure your satisfaction.

Product

• All dark colors of any solid quartz material, including Viatera, require more maintenance. Under ordinary use, dark colors will show dirt, dust, rubs, fingerprints and watermarks more readily than lighter colors and patterns. Naturally these colors require more care to maintain their appearance.

• Though quartz is a very hard and robust mineral, take special precautions around edges and sink cutouts. Impacts in these areas may chip the Viatera material.

• Honed finishes will require more daily maintenance than polished. Metal marks, fingerprints and other signs of daily living are more apparent. However, visible marks like these can be removed by using a non-abrasive cleaning product such as Soft Scrub® gel or Bar Keepers Friend® and a white Scotch Brite® pad.

• Like all natural quartz products, lamination lines will exist and are visible in countertops that have a 1 1/2” (4 cm) edge. Lamination lines are formed when two pieces of natural quartz are glued together to create a 1 1/2” (4 cm) edge.

• The color of each Viatera® slab is dependent on the natural materials as well as the colors mixed within the resin binder.

• The factory applied finish to all Viatera® slabs is a polished finish. * The quartz in the material takes a high polish, however the polymer resin binder does not. Therefore the overall gloss level on a Viatera® slab will be between 47 and 57, as measured with a gloss meter. Do not apply waxes or sealers to the Viatera surface. These products will not absorb into the material and will only cause build up on the surface.

• Natural quartz countertops will typically have seams and the seams will be visible. Where there are seams, the pattern and shade can change. The placement of seams will be at the discretion of the Certified Fabricator Installer. If requested, they will try to accommodate special requests for fewer seams, which may or may not be achievable due to size. If request can be achieved, it will typically increase the square footage of countertop that must be purchased and therefore, increase the price.

• Details about how Viatera® is cleaned and cared for are outlined in the Viatera® Care and Maintenance section of this manual and on the LG Hausys website at www.lghausys.com.

* Except Cairo. The honed (non-gloss) finish of Cairo will show more signs of daily use and requires more frequent cleaning to maintain its unique look. Please refer to the LG Hausys Viatera® care and maintenance guidelines.

Paint Lines

• Paint lines in cabinets may be visible after installation of countertop in both 2 cm and 3 cm material.• A paint line can be hidden by installing a piece of trim that matches your cabinets underneath your countertop.

Kitchen Cabinets and Support

• Cabinets must be leveled and shimmed where necessary to 1/16” tolerance prior to installation. In cases where cabinets are not level within tolerance, shims will be utilized to level the cabinetry and may be visible upon completion of installation. Note: Removing shims will void installation warranty.

• The material thickness dictates the amount of overhang permitted on a countertop. The counterop can support an overhang of 6” (2 cm) or 10” (3 cm) without additional brackets or corbels. However, at least 70% of the total countertop must be supported by cabinets, knee wall, etc. All overhangs in excess of those previously mentioned, will require corbels or brackets. All support brackets and corbels must be installed prior to the field template. New or existing cabinets must be structurally sound to withstand the weight of the countertop.

Templating

• If new appliances and/or a customer supplied sink are to be installed, they must be at the house on the day of template.

Please be aware that if the above-mentioned items are not at the home on the day of template, it will cause a delay in the installation of the countertop and may result in an additional charge to you.

• Someone with the ability to make decisions about selections must be present during template for selections such as the location of sink(s) and faucet holes, etc.

Please be aware that if the installer is unable to gather such information at the time of template, it will cause a delay in the installation of the countertop and may result in an additional charge to you.

Product Literature and Color Accuracy

• Although brochure color samples and literature have been reproduced by state of the art, high speed printing processes, the color will vary from actual countertop material. Additionally, please note that the color of printed samples will vary depending on the type of lighting you view them under. When a customer makes their final countertop color selection, they must view an actual product sample prior to purchase. Product samples are actually cut from a slab. Because of the manufacturing process and the natural quartz mineral particulates, minor color disparities may occur. Product will not be replaced due to these variations.

Tear-out and Installation

• Some minor and incidental damage may be done to existing backsplashes or wall covering during tear-out. The installer is not responsible for this damage.

• During installation, a substantial number of trips will be made from the outside work area to the kitchen. Please plan a path that you would like the installer to use, keeping in mind that the path must be of sufficient size, since they will be carrying large countertop pieces and cannot carry these items through tight corners.

• While the installer’s service includes clean-up, the consumers should expect some dust to continue to settle after the installer has cleaned up and left. Please be prepared to wipe up dust for a few days after the installer leaves.

• To minimize dust in other parts of the home, some consumers choose to put up a partition – a sheet is often used – between the room(s) undergoing work and the adjoining rooms and, additionally, turn off air conditioners.

• For liability reasons, the installer is not licensed or permitted to reconnect any plumbing or electrical work. Please contact a licensed plumber and/or electrician to arrange for this service.

• All items on top of the countertops that are to be torn out and all items below those countertops in the cabinets must be removed before the installer begins work.

• Mirrors in bathrooms that are permanently affixed to the wall and resting on or within 1” of the top of the existing backsplash or countertop, must be removed before tear-out (if customer contracted for Certified Fabricator Installer to tear-out) or before installation if the consumer is going to do the tear-out.

• The consumer should plan on being without the use of sinks and selected appliances for typically two days.• The Installation of countertops will require that the installer trim the countertops at the installation site to ensure

the best possible fit. This procedure is usually performed in a driveway or on the back porch if it is not raining. If it is raining, a covered place for the installer to work must be available or the installer may have to re-schedule the installation.

Care & MaintenanceViatera® Care & Maintenance Guidelines

Viatera® comprised of 93% natural quartz, helps to make your countertop a low maintenance surface that is resistant to scratches and stains. Viatera® is also heat-resistant, making it capable of enduring heat from a hot pan for short durations, however to avoid possible damage, a trivet or hot pad is recommended. With proper care and maintenance, Viatera® will remain beautiful and durable for many years.

Regular Cleaning

Normal cleaning of Viatera® requires only a damp cloth and mild household detergent. A list of acceptable cleaning products is located at the end of this document. For best results, clean spills as soon as possible. Viatera® is resistant to most stains including wine, lemon juice, tea, and fruits and vegetables without permanently staining or damaging the counters.

Cleaning Stains and Dried Spills

For tougher stains, mild non-abrasive cleansers are a good solution to keeping the surface looking new. Recommended cleaners include: Formula 409® Glass & Surface Cleaner, Bar Keeper’s Friend®, Lysol®, and Greased Lightning®. For dried spills, a non-abrasive scrub pad can be used. Rinse thoroughly and wipe with a damp cloth to remove all residue. While Viatera® is generally able to withstand most household chemicals, avoid using harsh chemicals or products that contain bleach. For tough spots from items such as gum, grease, paint, food, etc., scrape off the residue with a razor blade or putty knife prior to cleaning. The scraping may leave a gray metal mark on the countertop and can be cleaned off by using a recommended cleaner and a soft non-abrasive scrub pad. Buff with a damp cloth. For stubborn spots or stains, soak a pad of paper towels in water and any of the recommended cleansers and apply the towel to the stain and let soak for a few minutes. Deeply clean with a non-abrasive scrub pad and cleanser, rinse thoroughly, and buff with a damp cloth.

Waxes and Sealing

one of the many benefits of Viatera® is that it requires no sealants or waxes to be applied during its lifetime. Because it is non-porous, a sealer will not absorb into the material and would be ineffective. With normal cleaning procedures, your countertop will always retain its luster.

Honed Finishes

Honed finishes require more frequent cleaning to maintain their appearance. Metal marks, finger prints and other signs of daily living will be more apparent. However, visible marks such as these can be removed by using a non-abrasive pad and any of the recommended cleaning products.

Viatera® is NOT Indestructible!!

• Viatera® can be damaged when in contact with strong chemicals and solvents. Avoid products containing trichlorethane or methylene chloride including paint removers, car battery liquid, furniture strippers, oven cleaners, and products containing bleach. These products can cause permanent discoloration and damage to the surface. In the event that these agents come into contact with the surface, wipe immediately, rinse with water, and then clean with vinegar based cleaner. If the stain persists, contact the supplier/installer of your Viatera® product. Do not use abrasive and /or alkaline cleaning products. Do not use 3M Scotch Brite® green scrub pads or similar products, as they can dull the surface. When trying a new cleaning product, it is recommended that you always try the cleaner first on a hidden place of the surface and follow the cleaner manufacturer’s instructions.

• Viatera® can be damaged by excessive heat which causes the polymer resin binder to contract, leaving the surface exposed to heat feeling rough to touch and/or discolored. Avoid possible problems by using a trivet between the countertop and any hot pan or heat source.

• Viatera® is scratch resistant but can be scratched by materials harder than the quartz which makes up 93% of the product. For example, the bottom of some ceramic dishes may be abrasive enough to scratch your Viatera countertop.

• Viatera® can also be damaged by impact causing the material to chip or crack. By following the simple care guidelines above, you can enjoy the beauty and luxury of your Viatera® Quartz Surface for many years to come. The following are recommended commercial cleansers that are available for the routine care of your Viatera quartz surface: Non-bleach, non-abrasive liquid household cleaners:

Lovello Sink Limited Lifetime Warranty Lovello Sink Care and Maintenance

General Care and Cleaning of Your Lovello Sink

Wiping after every use is the key to maintaining the luster of your Lovello stainless steel sink. After every use, rinse thoroughly and wipe the sink with a soft cloth. This practice is the simplest, safest and least costly method that will reduce mineral deposits and water splotting in hard water conditions. Lovello stainless steel sinks thrive with frequent cleaning because there is no surface coating to wear off on stainless steel.

It is important to clean for aesthetic considerations and to preserve corrosion resistance. Stainless steel is protected from corrosion by a thin layer of chromium oxide. oxygen combined with the chromium in the stainless steel forms a chromium oxide film that protects further corrosion. Dirt, contamination and other materials hinder the safeguard process and trap corrosive agents, reducing corrosion protection. Routine cleaning is necessary to preserve the appearance and integrity of your Lovello stainless steel sink.

Cleaning of Sink Contaminants

Different contaminants such as dirt, dust and soil will vary greatly in the effect, appearance, corrosive probability and ease of removal. While some may be easily removed, others may require specific cleaners for effective removal. Frequently, warm water with or without a gentle detergent is sufficient. Next in order are mild non-scratching abrasive powders such as typical household cleaners including: Bar Keepers Friend®, Flitz®, Gordon’s Miracle Shine® and Shiny Sinks Plus®. All of these products are available at most grocery and hardware stores and it is recommended to follow the cleaning directions on the product.

Do Not use abrasive cleaners to clean your Lovello sink. Items such as steel brushes, steel wool and scrub pads will tarnish the finish and make the sink look dull. These should be avoided as they may leave particles imbedded on the surface which can lead to rusting.

Do Not let household cleaning products such as bleach sit in your sink for a long period of time, as it will damage the finish of your sink.

Scratches

Scratches are unavoidable in any sink material, including stainless steel. With time, these scratches will become uniform.

For minor scratches, combining a wet Scotch Brite® pad with a cleansing agent such as Flitz® will soften the appearance of scratches and disparities. you should rub the agent with the “grain” of the existing finish and continue to rub across the sink’s entire surface. RUBBING AGAINST THE GRAIN oR IN oNE SPoT WILL PRoDUCE PooR RESULTS. once the rubbing process is completed, sink should be rinsed with clean water and towel dried.

For more serious scratches, you can utilize a pumice rubbing compound which you can purchse from your local hardware store. This compound is more aggressive which will allow you to minimize the appearance of serious scratches.

To avoid minor or major scratches to the bottom of the sink, we recommend that you utilize a sink grid, which is available with all of our kitchen sink models.

Lovello Sink Care and Maintenance (continued)

Surface Stains and Rust

Surface residue such as hard water stains, tarnish, rust and lime deposits should be treated with any of the following cleaning products: Bar Keepers Friend®, Gordon’s Miracle Shine® or Flitz® (follow product directions). once clean, you should wipe off excess water with a dry towel.

Fingerpaints and Stains

Fingerprints and stains resulting from normal use in consumer and architectural applications are the most common surface contaminants. To easily remove, use a glass cleaner or by gentle rubbing with a paste of soda ash (sodium carbonate) and water applied with a soft rag and follow through with a water rinse.

Shop Oil and Grease

Shop oils, which commonly carry grease, grit and metal chips can produce surface spoiling after shop operations. Greases and other contaminants may also soil surfaces spoiling after shop operations. Greases and other contaminants may also soil surfaces in food preparation and many other household and commercial situations. Periodic removal of these soils is a necessity. Initially soap or detergent and water or a combination of detergent and water with a solvent will work. Non-halogenated solvents, such as acetone, methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, methyl ethyl ketone, benzene, isopropyl, alcohol, toluene, mineral spirits and turpentine work well. Most of these solvents are widely used individually, but there are many blended or compound cleaners on the market. Please use supplier directions for information on their applications on stainless steel.
