reflection form- reflective leadership

1
This artifact, titled Theoretical Analysis Paper was submitted for ELPS 419: Leadership in Higher Education. The purpose of this assignment was to examine an actual case study from a different college or university by using course content about leadership theories to reach a resolution. This assignment represents reflective leadership because it aligns with the learning outcome of understanding leadership theories and their application in higher education settings. My theoretical analysis of the case study utilized two theories: leader-member exchange (LMX) theory and situational theory. Exploring these two theories in-depth enabled me to assess the concerns prevalent in the case study by identifying strengths, weaknesses, and offering suggestions for resolving the issue prevalent in an organizational setting. In addition, this theoretical analysis demonstrated my ability to make decisions that are based on ethically-sound principles. The professor assigned us the task of making socially just decisions that would be consistent with the mission of the Multicultural Student Affairs office and steps to take to address the issues of community advocacy, engagement, and outreach for students of color and lesbian, gay, bisexual and, transgender students should a similar situation arise. I addressed that the type of interactions between leaders and followers can affect the satisfaction- level and commitment to the organization(s) of followers. To be effective leaders, the situational approach requires individuals to adapt their styles to meet the demands of unique situations. Situational leadership is composed of two dimensions of directive and supportive behavior, and a leader should be able to apply each accordingly. Finally, it is important to examine one’s lived experiences, and the privileges an individual possesses in order to make decisions that promote positive social change.

Reflection Form-Reflective Leadership

TRANSCRIPT

  • This artifact, titled Theoretical Analysis Paper was submitted for ELPS 419: Leadership in

Higher Education. The purpose of this assignment was to examine an actual case study from a

different college or university by using course content about leadership theories to reach a

    resolution.

This assignment represents reflective leadership because it aligns with the learning outcome of

understanding leadership theories and their application in higher education settings. My

theoretical analysis of the case study utilized two theories: leader-member exchange (LMX)

theory and situational theory. Exploring these two theories in-depth enabled me to assess the

concerns prevalent in the case study by identifying strengths, weaknesses, and offering

suggestions for resolving the issue prevalent in an organizational setting.

In addition, this theoretical analysis demonstrated my ability to make decisions that are based on

ethically-sound principles. The professor assigned us the task of making socially just decisions

that would be consistent with the mission of the Multicultural Student Affairs office and steps to

take to address the issues of community advocacy, engagement, and outreach for students of

color and lesbian, gay, bisexual and, transgender students should a similar situation arise. I

addressed that the type of interactions between leaders and followers can affect the satisfaction-

level and commitment to the organization(s) of followers. To be effective leaders, the situational

approach requires individuals to adapt their styles to meet the demands of unique situations.

Situational leadership is composed of two dimensions of directive and supportive behavior, and a

leader should be able to apply each accordingly. Finally, it is important to examine ones lived

experiences, and the privileges an individual possesses in order to make decisions that promote

    positive social change.
