Technology STANDARD 3 - Application of Technology in Instruction

The competent teacher will apply learning technologies that support instruction in theirgrade level and subject areas. He or she must plan and deliver instructional units that

integrate a variety of software, applications, and learning tools. Lessons developed must

reflect effective grouping and assessment strategies for diverse populations.

3A. Understands how to apply learning technologies that support instruction in their grade

level and subject areas.

3B. Explores, evaluates, and uses computer/technology resources including applications,

tools, educational software, and associated documentation.

3C. Describes current instructional principles, research, and appropriate assessment

practices as related to the use of computers and technology resources in the curriculum.

3D. Designs, implements and assesses student learning activities that integrate computers/

technology for a variety of student grouping strategies and for diverse student populations.3E. Practices socially responsible, ethical, and legal use of technology, information, and

software resources.

This standard is about how I, as a teacher, will use new learning technologies to enhance the

material that I am teaching in class. I plan instructional units that include a variety of software,

applications, and learning tools. I will change old lessons to become more updated through

using new educational technologies in the classroom. I will use the technology to support the

instruction in my grade level and subject area. I will explore new resources to incorporate in my

classroom, and will use the new resources to design, implement and assess student learning. I

will use this technology in a responsible, ethical, and legal way so that I can foster growth for

students.

2. Explain how the artifact you chose demonstrates your understanding and application of the

standard.

For this artifact, I chose a Power Point that I created about modifying old lesson plans to

incorporate more technology in the classroom. In the slideshow, there are standards that need to

be met at the top of each slide, then one slide will describe how that lesson would have been

taught prior to incorporating technology. The following slide will state how the standard could

be met more effectively through the use of technology. This artifact fits the standard because it

demonstrates an understanding of how to apply learning technologies that support instruction in

their grade level and subject areas that I teach. It shows that I know how to effectively plan and

deliver instructional units that integrate a variety of technological advances in the classroom. All

of the activities designed are done so appropriately and ethically.

the future to further meet the standard.

B If the artifact has not been used in your practice, i.e., a class assignment, reflect upon how

your teaching will be impacted by the assignment.

This artifact has not been used in my practice before, however, I do believe that it will impact my

teaching in the future as a result of completing the assignment. This will help me to have a

resource of a variety of ways to modify lessons to make them more interesting and relevant to

students. Learning to incorporate technology in the classroom will help students to learn in ways

that are effective for their generation. This Power Point was great practice for me as well in

knowing how to find and apply different technologies in the classroom. Having this ability will

make the transition to having my own classroom easier in that it will aide in giving me ideas of

how to use technology to my benefit and to that of the students as well.

Diverse Society as a result of satisfactorily meeting the standard.

This artifact helped me to be more prepared to teach and learn in a diverse society because

technology seems to be a universal language for all students today. There are programs,

software, databases, etc. that will help to create a classroom that is beneficial to ELL students,

students of different races, cultures, and learning levels. Applying some of the modifications

such as the ones presented in the Power Point could ease the development of accommodations

for students, and could make differentiating instruction more feasible. Knowing how to apply

technology in the classroom helps in preparing me to meet the needs of all my students.
