Reflexive Verbs are used to talk about a person doing something that involves himself or herself.

I bathe (myself).

I shave (myself).

Reflexive verb infinitives end in “se”

Levantarse = to get oneself up, to get

out of bed

Levantar = to raise up, pick up

something

*Levanto el libro.

*Me levanto de la cama a las siete.

How to use:How to use: 1)Take the “se” off the end of the

infinitive verb

2) Decide what pronoun to use:me, te, se, nos, os, se

3) Conjugate the verb like normal, and put the pronoun before the verb:

I get up. = Me levanto.

I got up. = Me levanté.

Infinitives:If there is an INFINITIVE in the sentence, you can put the pronoun on the end of the infinitive:

Voy a levantarme.

OR

Me voy a levantar.

•No me gusta levantarme temprano.

•A mi abuela no le gusta bañarse.

Reflexive vs. Non-Reflexive

Me lavo la cara.

vs.

Lavo la cara de mi hermanito.

Me pongo una chaqueta.

vs.

Pongo la chaqueta en mi armario.

Divertirse = to have fun

Divertir = to entertain (others)

Dormirse = to fall asleep

Dormir = to sleep

Irse = to leave, to flee

Ir = to go

Vestirse = to dress yourself

Vestir = to dress other people

Levantarse = to get yourself up

Levantar = to raise up, lift up

Llamar = to call

Llamarse = to be called, call yourself

Many reflexive verbs can be used as a reflexive or non-reflexive:

• Quemar(se)

• Lavar(se)

• Maquillar(se)

• Duchar(se)

• Etc.

TAREA• 10 original sentences using reflexive verbs.

• Use different subjects (me, you, him/her…)

• In each sentence tell what the person does and where they do it.

Example: Me ducho en el baño.
