Thanksgiving Eve Service at Trinity
beginning at 7:00.
We will worship and give thanks during our Thanksgiving Eve Service on Wednesday, November 22.
Some of our members will share their thankfulness for God’s blessings in their lives,
and our choirs and Praise Team will lift up their voices and music in thanksgiving to our great
God, who blesses us each day with gifts beyond measure, during a beautiful blended service of
music and praise.
Let us all gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing on our families and our world.
REFORMATION SUNDAY—OCTOBER 29
On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther nailed a list of 95 theses (items to be debated) on the door of the church at Wittenberg. His intent was to reform his church, the Ro-man Catholic Church.
But, the Church was not ready for the reforms Luther had in mind, and the foundations of today’s Lutheran Church were laid.
On Sunday, October 29, our Trinity family will gather for worship at 9:00 and 11:00 for our Reformation Festival Services to remember how our Lutheran heritage began.
REMEMBER TO WEAR RED!
CONFIRMATION—SUNDAY, OCTOBER 29
Eight of our youth will publicly affirm their faith in God and in their desire to be
a part of the ministry of Trinity during our 9:00 worship service on Sunday,
October 29.

Shari Kusaba Schwedhelm has been an Intern Pastor at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa and Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier since November 1, 2016. It has been my privilege to walk with her in this jour-ney as her Internship Supervisor. As her offsite supervisor, Trinity has paid nothing toward her expenses; these were covered by the two congregations. My time and travel expenses to meetings in Onawa and Soldier have been covered by funding from Luther Seminary. In terms of time, Shari and I have met every Tuesday, following Text Study that we both attended, for three hours of Supervision discussion and check-ing in. She completes her year of internship on Sunday, November 5, 2017, at a worship service in which I will participate.
This has been an interesting and challenging year. It started last October, when Bishop Prois called me and asked me if I would consider supervising an intern for the next year. After that, I had a phone interview with a representative from the seminary, and then a face-to-face interview with Shari to see if we thought that we could work together. From that point on we began.
Shari is married to Alan, and together they have 8 children, most of which are grown up and on their own, but with three still at home. They live in Kennard, Nebraska, so Shari needed an internship site that was within a reasonable driving distance from home. The bishop from the Nebraska Synod called Bishop Prois and asked if Western Iowa had any that fit that geographical restriction, and we did. Shari was already signed up for a full class load with the seminary to be taken online as well as on campus; was serving two con-gregations, leading worship and preaching twice every Sunday; being a wife and mom part time; officiated at 18 funerals; and visited 40 homebound people per month. In many ways, Shari has already experienced more in ministry in one year than many first call pas-tors will in several years. She is definitely ready!
Following her internship, Shari will continue at Onawa and Soldier as their Interim Pastor until they call a regular pastor or she gets a call to another congregation. She will now enter the candidacy process in the Nebraska Synod, during which she will be certified for ordination and await having her name issued to congregations looking for a pastor.
It has been a great privilege and honor for Trinity to share their pastor in this way in the formation of one more minister in Christ’s
church.

News From the Pastor
ALL SAINTS SUNDAY - NOVEMBER 5
Since the 9th century the Christian Church has celebrated November 1 as All Saints’ Day. This is a special day for remembering those of God’s family who have gone before us. On Sunday, November 5, we will celebrate this day as All Saints’ Sunday at both our 9:00 Traditional and 11:00 Praise Services. On this day we will recognize and remember all those who were born into the Kingdom of God through Holy Baptism, affirmed their faith in their Confirmation and departed to their reward in God’s heavenly Kingdom since last All Saint’s Day, in our prayers and by listing their names in the bulletin.
We rejoice with those who are born anew among us. We celebrate those who have affirmed their faith. We know that many of you still experience the sorrow which comes as you think of your loss. We pray that you may find comfort and strength in the promises of our God. We know that God walks with us through all the times and seasons of our lives, and is always present.
If you have a loved one who has passed away this past year and is not a member of Trinity, but would like their name included in the bulletin, please contact the church office by October 31 with their
name.
We hope that you will be able to be present at either of our worship services on Sunday, November 5, as we share together our faith in God.

The Sunday School offering and
birthday money collected this
year will go toward buying a cow
or chickens, etc., for a family as
part of the ELCA Good Gifts pro-
gram.
We will be making a difference in one or more
families by participating in this program, so please
remember to send offering and birthday money
along with your child(ren) to Sunday School. The
more we collect . . . the more we can help!

Demonstrate Your Thankfulness this Season
Each holiday season, Trinity anticipates and relies on a sea-sonal increase in contributions. It is through the donations of every individual and family in the congregation that we are able to carry on our work now and throughout the year.
If you need a convenient way to make recurring contributions or plan to make an additional gift before the end of the year, we encourage you to check out our electronic giving options. As the pace of life speeds up around the holidays, you may find electronic giving a most welcome way to make contribu-tions.
To set up a recurring giving schedule with our Easy Tithe program, download the Easy Tithe app on your phone or go to EasyTithe.com on your laptop. Find Trinity Lutheran Church and set your account information. The amount(s) you desig-nate will be withdrawn from your checking account or credit card automatically on the date you specify. It’s that easy!
NEIGHBORHOOD CHRISTMAS DINNER
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 17
Trinity will again host the Neighborhood Christmas Dinner. This dinner provides many opportunities for all of us to be in-volved with families in our neighborhood through wrapping of presents, joining in a meal with our neighbors, food prepara-tion, food serving, music and clean-up.
The Neighborhood Dinner is a partnership activity with Mid-town Community Center and Pastor Lil. Many of our members have been involved in this project in the past several years. Each and everyone involved felt it was one of the most joyous experiences in which they have been involved.
Please watch for the sign-up sheet starting on November 19. The dinner will be held on Sunday, December 17, with preparation day on Saturday, December 16.
Thank you everyone for your contributions during our monthly Dollar Sunday collection for the dinner. This process provides us with ample money to purchase the food without asking in December for last minute contributions. Planning ahead truly does pay off!
Reminders and messages are sent out by email daily, as it is a fast and easy way to contact you, so please call the church office and let Jane know what your email address is OR email Jane at: [email protected].

CHRISTMAS GOODIE EXTRAVAGANZA IS COMING SOON!
Saturday, December 11
TRINITY FAMILY FUND-RAISER FOR CHRISTIAN EDUCATION FUND
Trinity Members! Start planning to bake up a batch or two, or three of your favorite Christmas Goodies for our 11th Annual Christmas Goodie Extravaganza! We’re calling on ALL members to participate in some way this year. Watch for the clipboard sign-up sheet on Sunday mornings, beginning November 5, to find out how you can get involved.
Tickets will go on sale Sunday, November 12. Please plan to purchase or sell at least 5 tickets to help us meet our goal of selling 300 tickets, which would mean we will need 325 dozen Christmas goodies available on Saturday, December 9. Tickets will sell for $5.00, which allows you to choose a dozen assorted goodies on the 9th. Ticket money will need to be turned in by December 5.
The women of Trinity, or Trinity Women in Fellowship (TWF), work together to fund-raise for a variety of projects within Trinity and in the community.
Trinity currently has two women’s circles. Each circle meets monthly for Bible Study and fellowship. Below are the meeting dates and times of our circles. We hope you will come and see what we’re all about!
Miriam Circle - Meets the 4th Monday evening of the month at 6:00.
Abigail Circle - Meets the 3rd Thursday morning of the month at 11:00. Call Glenda Carstensen at 252-0662 if you would like to join this circle.
NEW TABLES: The women of Trinity and the Miriam & Abigail Circles have been busy raising funds to purchase the white, round lightweight tables for the fellowship hall. These tables would replace the heavy brown ones. So far we have purchased 4 tables, and have raised enough funds to purchase 6 more. Our goal is to purchase 18 tables, so we have 8 more to go. We appreciate your sup-port of our fund-raisers to help get these tables purchased quickly.
The Miriam Circle recently went to the Ronald McDonald House to prepare a meal of chili, corn bread and sugar cookies for the fami-lies who stay there. It was a fun night!
TWF is sending $100 to Lutheran Lakeside Camp to help in their purchase of a stove for the camp kitchen.
ALL IS CALM, ALL IS BRIGHT PAINTING FUND-RAISER
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9
6:00-8:00 P.M.
Come and try out your painting skills, or just come for the fun of it! We will be painting a scriptural picture with the theme of All is Calm, All is Bright on Thursday, November 9. This is a fund-raiser sponsored by TWF to purchase light-weight, white, round tables for the fellowship hall. The tables we now use are very heavy and hard to put up and take down, so these new tables will make it a lot easier. Annika Kolbo, who teaches art at Irving Elementary School, will be our instructor.
Choose from the following types of canvas: Canvas Paper Donation is $30 Canvas Board Donation is $40
Your donation will cover the painting supplies and fund-raiser, and you will get to take your beautiful painting home with you!
If you’d like to bring an appetizer to share, that would be great, and we’ll have apple cider to warm us up as well.
