As part of its good offices mandate, UNAMA in- vited participants for an open discussion, chaired by Pernille Kardel, the Secretary-General’s Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan. A broad range of issues were discussed, including the tragic 23 July suicide attack in Kabul claimed by Daesh against peaceful demonstrators, which resulted in the deaths of at least 85 civilians and injured more than 400 others. The findings of UNAMA’s independent human rights investigation of the attack were shared with participants at the meeting. UNAMA has produced a report on the attack as part of its mandated, and internationally respected, work on human rights in Afghanistan and the protection of civilians in armed conflict. The report will be released shortly. Participants included Members of Parliament, rep- resentatives of civil society groups, including the Enlightening Movement, as well as Dr. Sima Samar, Chairperson of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission. ...(More on P4)...(4) ISLAMABAD - A senior leader of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Azam Tariq, is believed to have been killed in Paktika province, the group’s sources confirmed to the media on Sunday. Azam Tariq was among four Pakistani Taliban ac- tivists who were killed in an operation by the Af- ghan security forces late Saturday, the sources told tribal journalists in Pakistan. Some sources said Azam’s son is also among the dead. Security sources have also confirmed to tribal jour- nalists in the region that the Taliban’s leader has been killed, according to section of the media. The slain leader had previously worked as the spokesman for the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Paki- stan and was working as spokesman for the Taliban faction led by a senior commander, Khan Sayed alias Sajna. Pakistani security officials believe that majority of the Taliban belong to Sajna group living in Paktika province after they entered Afghanistan in the wake of military operations in Waziristan tribal region. Last month, American and Afghan officials con- firmed that a leader of the Islamic State, Hafiz Saeed Khan, was killed in a U.S. drone strike. National Citizen Charter Program Inaugurated
