Great Yarmouth Then: 1000 years on a sandbank
Great Yarmouth Now:
• Culture identified as a driver for
urban and community
regeneration (2007):
Initially led by SeaChange Arts
supported by Great Yarmouth
Borough Council
• The birth of OUT THERE (2008):
A place-based arts festival for Great
Yarmouth accessible to everybody.
Opportunity:
• Raise local confidence and
aspiration
• Engage local communities
• Extend the visitor season with
shoulder programmes
• Stimulate the economy
• Raise the local cultural profile of
Great Yarmouth
Ambition:
• Develop collaborative, ambitious
partnerships
• Engage and support creative collaboration
between local communities and
professional artists
• Strengthen relations with internationally
diverse communities
• Support artists and performers to develop
work of the highest calibre
• Build a creative workforce
Action:
• New dedicated circus and street arts creation and
training facility (2012)
• SeaChange became an Arts Council’s National Portfolio
Organisation (2015)
• Festa Fiesta! - A new mini-festival day of street
celebrations
• Other shoulder events across the year led by our
communities and local businesses
• Great Yarmouth one of the ‘Six Cities of Circus’ in 2018
• SeaChange has been lead partner in UK-wide Coasters
project
