READING 2 (Items 5–10) [6 marks]
Read the text. For each question, shade in the bubble under the correct option.
When tourists come to Oman, they bring money into the country. So tourism may
represent a large economic sector for the country and also this means that many Omani
people can find jobs in tourism.
Tourism in Oman has developed much for the last ten years. It has attracted more and
more tourists from different parts of the world because the Ministry of Tourism has
planned well for this sector. For example, many beautiful hotels and touristic resorts have
been built. So tourists feel very comfortable when they visit the country. They enjoy the
beautiful Oman's landscape and nature. For example, they go to Wahiba Sands in Al-
Sharqiya and spend enjoyable time there. They visit ancient sites such as Nizwa Fort and
Jibrin Palace in Al-Dakhiliya. They also visit local markets, such as Mutrah Sooq in
Muscat, where they can buy fabulous souvenirs such as Omani silver jewellery and
handicrafts.
During the summer season, the best region for tourists to visit is Dhofar in the south of
Oman. The weather becomes cool and many cultural and musical events are organised.
The season is called "Khareef Dhofar". That is why many local tourists and foreigners go
to Salalah to spend wonderful days there!
Tourists do not worry about transport when they want to visit the different areas of
Oman. The only reason is that there are modern roads and comfortable transport
facilities, such as powerful cars and modern buses. Besides, they feel even more
comfortable because Omani people are very friendly!
