Autumn 2017
Newsletter
Registered Charity No. 1170534
Welcome to our spring newsletter
Welcome to our autumn newsletter. As you flick through the pages I’m sure
you’ll agree that we have had some great fun over the past few months.
It’s been an exciting term; we launched our TAG Radio Station during our
successful Awards Night during National Youth Work Week and set up some
new initiatives including a Recruits Crew, Mentoring Scheme and the London
Youth’s City Leaders programme.
We have been busy fundraising to provide our members with the opportunity
to explore new experiences and find exciting new resources for our young
people to enjoy and engage with. We are currently investing in some virtual
reality equipment and next term we will be launching a new project currently
called TAG News (working title) where we will be producing a user led
newsletter.
We are still welcoming new children and young people to our Junior Club and
have supported 14 children during the term. We are currently bringing in
some changes so both Clubs’ operations run parallel. Our Junior Club (10-15
years) operates on alternate Fridays between 17:30 & 19:00.
Our core Youth Club continues to be successful with our youth workers
supporting 77 young people during the term. Our Youth Club (15-25 years)
operates weekly between 19:30 & 21:30.
Lastly I am pleased to share the news that the Club has achieved the London
Youth Silver Quality Mark.
Please don’t forget to follow our social media streams to keep up to date with
everything that’s going on.

We enjoyed baking cookies and cupcakes, though
choosing which flavoured buttercream to pipe
proved the hardest element of the evening.
As well as our onsite baking we needed to search
for our best baker. Our passionate bakers
brought along their cake to compete for the title.
Rather than three challenges we asked for one
showstopper which incorporated the signature
bake and technical bake. How were we going to
judge this all important competition? By getting
everyone to judge; that was 40 young people,
staff and volunteers to inspect, prod and sample.
Great TAG
Bake Off
Wish You Had Been
There
As many of us returned from our hot and sunny
summer holidays we spent the evening
reminiscing about the fun and wild ventures that
we had while away.
We welcomed Dramatize who led an evening of
drama, movement and dance all within the theme
of going away on holiday. We learnt various
techniques during the evening which helped us
express ourselves to our friends.
The session finished with some activity and
colouring sheets.

At The Movies Ready Steady Cook
We may not have had the lights and the big
cameras but we certainly had the action as we
enjoyed an evening of dressing up and re-
enacting scenes for some of the best movies
ever made.
Some young people arrived dressed as their
favourite movie character, all for the chance to
win our fancy dress competition.
Young people also took part in a mime workshop
led by Dramatize, following the At The Movies
theme. Young people were required to
improvise and work as part of a team.
We had a busy time during our Ready Steady
Cook activities; we made individual pitta bread
pizzas where young people could add their
preferred topping. We had sliced ham, tomatoes
and mushrooms, chopped pineapple and red,
yellow and green peppers. We learnt the
importance of washing our hands and to follow
important rules when handling edible items.
Some young people took part in our creative
activity called face plates where we decorated
plates which have a basic face image printed on
them using a wide selection of vegetables to
make the features for example hair, eyes, mouth.

Open Aired
Cinema
It’s taken 3 years but we finally managed to have our Open Aired Cinema out in
the open. We turned the garden area into our very own cinema for the night as
we projected the film onto a large screen and used our portable speaker.
So the first movie was chosen but it wasn’t long until mutiny kicked in and
another vote was cast and with a change of movie we settled down for the
evening. Obviously the evening wouldn’t have been complete without some
freshly popped popcorn.
5
Clowning Around
We learnt how to walk on stilts and had a go on the
peddle goes. We juggled using a range of balls and
clubs, we spun plates and had our faces painted.
Come Dancing
This year’s Come Dancing saw many interesting
performances including both individual and
group routines.
6
Game Show Marathon
We had loads of fun playing Deal or No Deal and
Wheel of Fortune especially as the prizes were
paid out in chocolate coins!
Trick or
Treat
We had a full fight
night as we took part
in various themed
games. We tried to eat
doughnuts that were
hanging from chains in
our dungeon.
We hooked skulls from
our watery coffin and
collected apples from
the witches’ cauldron.
Young people enjoyed
dressing up and
having their faces
painted.

The Apprentice
Explosive
November
We wrapped up warmly and headed outside for our
Explosive November activities. We toasted
marshmallows on the fire before having a tasty
barbeque and lit some sparklers to wave around.
In the warmth we made colourful lanterns which
were lit by battery operated tea lights. We also
made some rocket shaped stained glass windows.
This Year’s The Apprentice saw the boys vs the
girls in the battle to raise as much money as
possible by selling cakes. Young people baked
cakes at home and brought them along on the
night. Participants organised their own marketing
campaign.
The evening fell towards the end of National Youth
Work Week so, to celebrate, we held a glamorous
awards ceremony with special guests presenting
awards.
We also launched TAG Radio during the evening.
The TAG
Factor
Last Orders
Our pub themed night
proved to be as
successful as last year
with our annual quiz
followed by some
cheeky lemonade
shandy. We also
enjoyed playing darts,
pool and table football.
With our stage erected, flashing lights and music
playing it could only mean one thing; the return of
The TAG Factor. This year we were lucky to have
had the addition of our new touch screen karaoke
machine which the young people are more
confident in using than the staff! Categories
included the boys, the girls and the groups.

Get Me Out
Of Here!
We had loads of jungle fun during our Get Me
Out Of Here trials. We had to find stars in boxes
filled with critters, grab stars from the lizard
filled coffin and find stars in between the snakes!
And let’s not forget the food challenges with
some nasty edible items like frogspawn, lizard
feet and snake tails!

All The
Trimmings
Frosty Fun
We always like to try
new things and this
term was no exception
with the addition of
our Christmas meal.
We dressed up
warmly and met at the
restaurant for a roast
dinner with all the
trimmings. Young
people chose their
freshly carved meat
and then filled their
plates with vegetables
before covering them
in gravy!
Let it snow, let it snow,
let it snow and it
certainly did for our
frosty Fun activities.
Young people made
melting snowman
biscuits and made
some Christmas cards
and some themed art
and crafts.
We had a giant
snowball fight with
over 350 plush
snowballs while we
had foam snow
showering us from
overhead.

We celebrated the festive season and our last session before the big day itself
with a Christmas party with lots of music, loads of food and the odd game here
and there. The usual favourites included pass the parcel, musical statues and
musical bumps which were played before we had a visit from Father
Christmas who gave out chocolate selection boxes to everyone who visited
him in his grotto!
To end the party we gathered together for a Christmas disco and wished
everyone a very happy Christmas.

Party Time
Oh Yes
It Is
It was panto time ‘oh no it wasn’t’, ‘oh yes it was’ as we embarked on a
journey to see Jack and the Beanstalk at the New Wimbledon Theatre. With
the lights flashing, the music thumping and the bright costumes - we had a
great time. We played pass the parcel during the interval. Who would have
thought pass the parcel could be so much fun while we passed the parcel
along the rows? Each layer had some chocolate treats and the star prizes
included selection boxes which went down a treat!

Fundraising
TAG Radio
We have been so
excited about the
launch of our radio
station.
Young people have
been working really
hard to build their
confidence and
improve their
communication skills
by using the
equipment.
TAG Radio is now
broadcasting live at
Ham Youth Centre on
Friday nights.
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered or supported us during the past
few months. We have cruised along the River Thames, bag packed and
collected door to door with Father Christmas to name a few.
As well as fundraising for new equipment we have also been busy engaging
with our communities and have met lots of people along the way. Please
look out for our 2018 Fundraising & Community Engagement Calendar in the
coming weeks.
Well done to all of our
2017 Jack Petchey
Achievement Award
winners.
4 young people who
won achievement
awards and 1 youth
worker who won a
leader award
attended a glitzy
celebration event in
Crystal Palace.
Each winner was
presented with a
medallion on stage.
