can be used in a larger project and create a lap quilt or larger. It is made entirely of half-square triangles. A variety of methods to use in creating a half-square triangle block will be demonstrated, as well as designs for quilt blocks utilizing the half-square triangle block in a variety of layouts. Cost: $12 / person plus each participants must purchase their own fabric, thread, etc. Please see workshop flier below for fabric details. Youth, 3rd grade and older, will need to have at least one year in the quilting project and knowledge of rotary cutting methods. Limits: 4 minimum to 10 or 12 maximum. 3. Kumihimo Bead Braiding – Instructor -- Rita Briant of Prairie Flower Beads, Portage. Participants will create a necklace with beads and a pendant. This project will require that students remain very focused and on task throughout the day so the project may be completed. Project time: 2 hours to string all of the beads; 3 hours to braid the strings of beads; plus some time to finish the ends. Cost: $ 40/person – all materials are supplied (beads, handmade pendant, string, etc). Participants will be able to choose their own bead colors and individual pendants at the class. Youth, 4th grade and older. Limits: 4 minimum to 8 maximum. An adult may attend with each youth to help facilitate the completion of this project; however, only one kumihimo braiding kit will be provided. Please see workshop flier and image below. 4. Basketry -- Instructor -- Connie Alderden - http://www.attictreasuresbasketry.com/. Connie is a member of Silver Creek Basketry Guild, Dodge County, WI 4-H Leader. Kids would create a small basket. Adult helper or older youth helper or both if possible. Cost: $10/person (for supplies.) Youth, 6th grade and older. Limit: 10. 5. Food Preservation Investigation -- Instructor --Becky Gutzman - During this session we will learn how to preserve garden produce to enjoy all year long by drying, canning and freezing. Participants will go home with dried snacks, jam or jelly, and some frozen veggies. Please bring an apron. Cost: $15/person. Youth, 4th grade and older, and parents if space allows. Limit: 12. 6. Cloverbud Class – Instructor -- Jen Martens with 2 youth helpers - Kids will create a sketchbook, add drawings from observation, create an acrylic painting on canvas, art critique and art show. Cost: $5. Youth K-2nd grade. (Limit: 12-14 total kids) UPDATE: 3rd graders can join this class if they would like to!!! 7. Create a T-shirt Quilt for Karen Nelson – Instructor -- Pat Wagner - All materials will be available that day. Youth and/or adults bring their sewing machines and sewing equipment and a t-shirt quilt of Columbia County 4-H club t-shirts is created as Karen Nelson’s going away gift. Participants will learn the art of making a t-shirt quilt together! 12:00pm – Potluck Lunch Each participant family is to bring a dish to pass. Hot Dog sandwiches, beverages, and tableware will be provided. We will eat in the FACE classroom. There is room to plug in crockpots or keep food cold in coolers in that classroom. We will not have access to refrigerators in that classroom. 12:30 – 2:00pm – Project Spotlight sessions continue and 4-H Cloverbuds are dismissed. 2:00 pm – Clean up all spaces and return to hallway outside of Room 136. Arrange projects on tables for Showcase presentation. 2:30pm – 4-H Project Spotlight “Showcase” (a sharing time for all participants) 3:30 pm – Head for home Project Spotlight Photo Contest
