ABOUT INDIAN AEROBIOLOGICAL SOCIETY® (IAS)
Indian Aerobiological Society® is a registered Indian scientific society founded in 1980 and is also affiliated to International Aerobiological Association, USA. It is an association of enthusiastic scientists working in life sciences, medical, agricultural, chemical and environmental sciences to promote aerobiological research in India and disseminate new knowledge in the field of aerobiology with international cooperation. IAS publishes a prestigious journal ‘Indian journal of Aerobiology’
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The 18th conference of IAS at TU will be the meeting place of scientists from academics and industry. The conference provides a vibrant platform for sharing scientific knowledge among accomplished scientists, budding talents and industry. Microarray based bacterial census in the skies of San Antonio and Austin revealed sticking diversity of 1800 different bacterial sp. that includes pathogenic and also those that are used in bioterrorism The aim of the conference is to have extensive scientific discussions on recent surge in the increase in the incidence of allergies, and frantic out-breaks of airborne disease epidemics both in animals and plants and protection of heritage material. These are attributed to the presence of viruses (H1N1, SARS, Dengu, Flavivirus, FMDV, plant viruses etc.), bacteria, fungi, pollen, lichens, algae and spores in the aerosols. Besides this, microorganisms from the atmospheric air were reported to colonize on pigments of ancient paintings and art material, ancient books and documents, and buildings made of stone and lime causing significant alterations and damage to cultural heritage. Aerobiology is concerned with the analysis of microorganisms in the atmospheric air. The study also predicts the patterns of airborne pathogens in aerosols that cause deleterious effects on vegetation, animal health and heritage. Aerobiologists teaming up with meteorologists, mathematician and physicist can build accurate mathematical and geospatial models that simulate different atmospheric conditions to predict the dispersal, and settling of suspended particles in time and space. Aerobiology, with the help of cutting-edge instrumentation and high throughput methods like, DNA and protein microarray, LC-ESI/MALDI-MS, real-time PCR, ELISA, and in-situ probe hybridization can detect and accurately quantify all the biological and chemical matters present in the air. Thus, aerobiologists, based on atmospheric conditions, could treatise accurate animal and plant disease forecasting and also help protection of cultural heritage & ancient knowledge from microbial deterioration.
OBJECTIVES OF THE CONFERENCE
1. To bring senior acomplished aerobiology scientists and young scientists under common roof for the exchange of scientific content, which, may glint novel ways to addres more complex and unanswered global problems in an efficient manner.
2. Instill critical thinking to understand scientific problems for translational reasearch 3. Finding solutions to limit unwanted airborne human, plant disease epidemics and
protection of heritage materials 4. To send Medawar’s message to young talents - facts accumulate faster than the
theories can accommodate them THEME(S) OF THE CONFERENCE
Pathophysiology of airborne plant and animal diseases. Aeroallergens in allergy and allied health complications. Effect of aerosol on agriculture, environment, heritage material. Innovative sampling methods, sensitive and high throughput-
technologies for detection and quantification of microorganisms, pollen, spores & chemicals in the atmosphere. Effect of humidity, air flow, temp. and other factors on airborne disease epidemics.
Aero-biodiversity, biodeteriation, aerobiopollution, mycology, mites & allergy. Methods to mitigate undesirable microbial load and providing solutions for plant and animal health, environmental sustainibility, protection of ancient art & heritage materials.
Controlling allergies and frantic disease out-breaks by adopting disease forecasting. Application of bioinformatics, statistics and atmosphereic science to aerobiological study. Legeslation for mitigating air borne diseases
