UNIVERSITY OF IOWA Youth Ballet Program Summer 2016 June 13th - July 23rd

FACULTYJason Schadt (JS) [Youth Ballet Artistic Coordinator] holds his Master of Fine Arts in Dance Performance. Jason is also an Adjunct faculty at UNI, where he teaches technique and directs Orchesis Dance Company.

Kathryn Smith (KS) [Youth Ballet Administrator] received her BA in Dance Performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and her Master in Dance Performance from the University of Iowa.

Dana Powers-Klooster (DPK) received her MFA in Dance, Performance Track at the University of Iowa in the spring of 2014. Ms. Powers-Klooster taught Continuing Ballet for the department of dance while at Iowa. She has also taught Ballet at the Steamboat Ballet School of Dance in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Britta Lazenga (BL) danced professionally with the los Angeles Ballet and the Joffrey Ballet. She has trained at the Harid Conservatory, the Pacific Northwest Ballet and the Pittsburg Ballet Theater.

Rebekah Chappell (RC) earned her MFA in Dance from the University of Iowa in 2016. She has taught for the University Department of Dance and has extensive teaching experience with children and adults.

Eleanor Taft (ET) received her BFA in Dance from the University of Oklahoma and has performed works in New Orleans, San Francisco and New York.

REGISTRATION: Mail-in registration is recommended. Payment of class tuition is due in advance. Once enrolled, you are responsible for entire tuition payment regardless of attendance.

UI Youth Ballet Children’s Ballet Workshops Each camp emphasizes the story of a classical ballet. Camp will begin each day with a ballet class. Video and discussion of the ballet will follow during snack time. Following snack, crafts and a variety of subjects will be discussed such as: history of ballet, costuming, nutrition and anatomy.

SUMMER BALLET INTENSIVE

Dance Intensive June 20th -June 24th Fee: $275.00Intermediate level students ages 10-17Intensive is limited to 25 students. Before registering please call the Youth Ballet office at 319-335-2193.

DRESS CODE: Class dress encourages unity and discipline.

• Females must wear pink tights and pink ballet shoes.

• Males must wear dark black or blue shorts, white t-shirt (plain), white socks, and black ballet shoes.

• Camisole leotard colors for each level of ballet available at NDA in Coralville and Iowa City. Please see ballet level “Dress Code” in Parent Handbook or on webpage.

• All Dancers must have long hair pulled back from the face, and ballet students must wear hair in a bun. No excess jewelry is allowed in class.

• Dress code does not apply for adult dancers.

• Creative Movement and Modern classes: comfortable clothing and bare feet.

TUITION: Families with more than 1 student will receive a 10% discount from your family total.

• NO REFUNDS AFTER THE SECOND WEEK OF CLASSES.• There will be a $15 service charge for all returned checks.• A single class is $20.00, a 10-Punch Class Card is $145. UIYB

is not responsible for lost or stolen class cards. Cards are available in the main department office or W106.
