DAY ONE: Planning a treatment timeline from conception to postnatal
recovery.
This workshop will give you the information you need to plan treatments according to your patient’s gestation and postnatal requirements. Beginning at conception this brings together historical Chinese medicine concepts, western medical physiology for a developing pregnancy and the latest acupuncture research.
This understanding will enable you recommend preventative treatment options as well as en-hance your treatments for pregnancy related problems. Topics covered in day one include:
§ Historical concepts – what remains relevant to modern practice?§ Western medical physiology - understand-ing the latest research about implantation, pregnancy and labor in order to adapt the most relevant treatment for the different stages of pregnancy. § Hormonal and immune changes required for a healthy pregnancy and an efficient labour – their relevance to your acupuncture practice. § Post-partum recovery – exploring the po-tential of acupuncture § Safety first- acupuncture as a scope of prac-tice within obstetrics§ Forbidden points in pregnancy – historical myth or classical wisdom? § Acupuncture treatment from conception until 12 gestational weeks § Acupuncture treatment from 12 to 40 gesta-tional weeks § Labour and postpartum
DAY TWO: The A - to - Z of Pregnancy Care for Specific
ConditionsTreatment options for women presenting with specific conditions during pregnancy, labour & post-partum. About the PresenterDebra Betts, NZ Reg. Nurse, Lic Acupuncture British College, Dip Ac, BHSc ( Acupuncture).Debra has a background in nursing and gradu-ated with a Diploma in Acupuncture from the London College of Acupuncture in 1989. Re-turning to New Zealand in 1991 she established a private practice specialising in pregnancy and women’s health care.
She began specifically developing and teaching acupuncture courses to midwives in 1997. This led to the publication of articles on the subject of the use of acupuncture in obstetric practice in 1999 and the publication of her book “The Essential Guide to Acupuncture in Pregnancy & Childbirth” in 2006. Debra now lectures inter-nationally on the use of acupuncture in obstet-ric care.
She currently acts as a supervisor for the New Zealand School of Acupuncture at a hospital antenatal acupuncture clinic, this clinic pro-vides free antenatal care to women. Debra is also undertaking a PhD examining the effect of acupuncture on threatened miscarriage.
