Meet at Vadoulis’ Nursery on October 8th at 1:30pm to celebrate the 61st birthday

of the branch. Competition: a bookmark.

We will have a talk from a member of staff and enjoy afternoon tea in

the Cafe.

The sun shone and the cold breeze blew as morning tea was enjoyed at Littlehampton by the Williamstown Uniting Church Garden Club, before visiting the nursery there. On to Mt. Barker to Duck Flat Community Garden, where our host Megan Collins the coordinator welcomed us, and after our packed lunch, she gave us a very interest-ing talk on how the garden evolved. Situated behind the local hospital it was an initiative of the Health Service and health workers in the community. Situated on 2 hectares, it was started about 13 years ago, to improve well being.

The garden now has well laid out footpaths, materials donated, about 40 regular volunteers, a shed, (also donated,) as their base and some-where to share and work when wet. The Heart Garden was developed as Bereavement section and has steadily grown. 35 vegetable beds, some with permanent plants and some raised beds to suit all comers, a hot house to raise their seedlings sold at various outlets. Fruit trees just coming into bloom, pizza oven, a barbecue and lots of seats some donated by various groups who use the garden or add special features to it. The brochure says “The garden welcomes everyone to a centre for health and wellbeing”, and it is

certainly worth a visit and so interesting to hear about. We were disappointed there were not many able to come and share this interesting garden project. The next 2 outings for the Club will be: 1. a visit and behind the scenes tour, and lunch at Roseworthy College. Leaving home base at 12:30. Please let Connie know your choice of meat. 2. On October 27th (note no

November meeting.) leave at 1pm to visit Mt Pleasant garden and pottery demonstration, and items for sale. Afternoon tea supplied—usual cost $5. donation to Red Cross

The winner of the Father's Day raffle was a customer that came into the Little

shop of Treasures (Op shop) from Mawson lakes.

Thank you to Jean Randall for donating the prize which raised over $200 to go

towards this year's Christmas Fair on the 6th of December..

On Sunday 21 st September, the Lyndoch and Districts Bowling Club

held their official opening day for the 2014/2015 season. After a welcome from our new President, Darren Green, our 2013/14

female Club Champion, Julie Campbell rolled the first kitty, while our male Club Champion, Trevor Noble rolled the first bowl. We hope the fact that the first bowl played on the day was on the wrong bias isn’t a bad omen for

the new season!! The weather was lovely and everyone who attended had a wonderful

afternoon. Thank you to all who provided the lovely food for afternoon tea.

This year is the 30th Anniversary of the clubs foundation. The club is currently undergoing major works with the extension of the club-

rooms and kitchen area and a disabled toilet.

Once again this season, we will be holding our Tuesday Night Bowls starting the first of

the two series on Tuesday 14th October 2014. If you are interested in having a fun game of

bowls and joining a team, or have a team of 4 you would like to enter into this competition,

please contact: Tony Drummond on 85 244951 or Darren Green on 85233062 Our thanks go to Lyndoch Motors who are our sponsors for this first series of Night Bowls.

Lyndoch Red Cross News There was a great turn-out of people, young and old, to celebrate the 75th birthday of the Lyn-doch Red Cross and the centenary of Red Cross in Australia . The community event was held on Sunday 21st September. Well over 100 people were in attendance at any one time. The Lyndoch Primary School choir and the St Jakobi Glee Club both performed for the crowd along with the Marananga Brass Band and the Sounds Familiar choir. Mayor Brian Hurn (and Mayor-elect Bob Sloane) from The Barossa Council and Mayor Sambell from the Town of Gawler and Hon Tony Piccolo, Member for Light were in attendance. The balloon popping game was very popular as were the face painting and the CFS BBQ. The Patron of Red Cross South Australia , Mrs Val Broadbent performed the honours of cutting the birthday cake and dispensing the prizes for the colouring competition. There was an official rais-ing of the Red Cross flag at 1.30pm and the crowd sang the Song of Australia. The committee worked very hard for a number of months to bring everything together and would like to thank the community for their support. If anyone is interested in becoming a member of Red Cross, it is only $5 a year to be a Branch member. We meet 11 times a year and have inter-esting guest speakers at most meetings. The Branch now have a Facebook page so you can search Australian Red Cross – Lyndoch Branch and “LIKE” us to keep up with what we are doing. The October meeting will be a Mystery Car Trip. The November meeting will be on the 3rd at 2pm in the Lyndoch Library meeting room. For further information, please call either Malinda on 8524 5353 or Monica on 8524 4438. WHAT IS A PANTOMIME?

A Pantomime ( informally Panto ) is a type of musical comedy stage production, de-signed for family entertainment. Pantomime includes songs, slapstick comedy, and dancing, and combines topical humour with a story loosely based on a well known Fairytale. It is a participatory form of theatre, in which the audience is expected to sing along with certain parts of the music and shout phrases to the performers. 35 years ago, a wonderful lady named Hilda Foad, wrote and directed our first Pantomime, Cinderella. It was performed by a group of young mums to raise money for a fridge for the local primary school. It was a real success, and we as a group are so proud to bring to you each year another production. We write, produce, make all our costumes, make all our stage props and perform each year in our Williamstown Soldiers Memorial Hall. I believe we are really lucky to have such a well preserved and presented hall in our community. We are in desperate need to replace the lighting system which is a very important part of our Pantomimes each year. We are about to start fundraising to pay for it but if anyone would like to contribute towards this we would be very grateful for any donations of any amount.

Our group, The Williamstown Amateur Players Inc. Comprises of women of all ages and women from Williamstown, Kersbrook, Nuriootpa, Tanunda, Gumeracha, Elizabeth and Craigmore. Some of our current performers have been with us for 28 years, WOW! Our founder, Hilda only retired from performing 3 years ago. It's amazing how many of our well known local ladies have been a part of our group in the past years. Lyn Venning, Angie Smith and Barb Kassebaum just to name a few! To this day if you stop and chat to them about it, your conversation soon turns to laughter! That's what we are all about, Fun and Laughter. Present members include many of Williamstown's local ladies, although it is a bit hard to work out who they are in some of the costumes!! We want you to help keep this tradition alive, by filling our seats at one of our many performances, come and support us and support The Barossa Fundraisers for Cancer. Bring your whole family, mums, dads, children and grandparents. Get a group of friends together, it's a great night or day out. We will be looking for your faces in the audience.

Let's make Hilda Foad proud once again.

If you are interested in performing, or helping with backstage or front of house

operations, please call 85246411, also for any Bookings and enquiries.

Please come and support your local market.

Dear Editor, If we are a “Bicycle Friendly” town why are there no safe places for the cyclists to ride? I am often driving along the main street of Williamstown and the cyclists have to share the road with me, parked cars and double, no overtaking lines. (not very friendly.) Children on their bicycles can’t even use the footpaths as they are treacherous to walkers let alone those on bikes. The main street of Williamstown extends beyond the commercial zone, but this seems to have been forgotten by “Our Council” who have seemingly spent a lot of money in the larger towns in the council area but very little in our lovely area of Williamstown. As the Southern Gateway to the Barossa, surely we are in need of greater beautification as an invite for travellers driving through.
