Greek rhetorician, explained that critical listening involves three aspects

1. Ethos2. Logos3. Pathos

Ethos

speaker is credible if s/he is an expert in his/her topic and is trustworthy.

Logos

Speaker may commit errors in logic because of carelessness or inattention to details or lack of analysis.

Pathos

Strategy of the speaker to use psychological appeals to gain emotional response.
