Relationships Explain what religious believers mean by ‘love’. (2) Religious believers use the word ‘love’ to describe the immense and unconditional kindness and affection that God shows towards the world and to mankind. For example ‘Philia’ is the love between friends. Explain how having a religious faith might influence a couple who want to marry.(4) In some religions having sexual instincts can encourage people to marry since sex outside of marriage may be forbidden so to control these feelings they might want to marry the person so they don’t go against their religion. “Whoever among you can marry, should marry, because it helps him lower his gaze and guard his modesty...” Prophet Muhammad. In most religions one of the main purpose to marry is to start a family so a couple might want to start a family but feel children should be raised in an environment with married parents so they can be brought up in a certain religion and sex outside marriage may be forbidden so to start the family they would need to get married. For example a Muslim couple may marry so they can bring their children up as practising Muslims. ‘Same sex marriages should be allowed in a place of worship.’ Give two reasons why a religious believer might agree or disagree with this statement (4)
