MidSouth Community is excited to announce the recipients of its 2015 Tom Bentley Memorial High School and Continuing Education Scholarship programs
Taylore Brooks of Milledgeville was awarded the 2015 High School Scholarship A graduate of Georgia Military College Prep School Miss Brooks will attend Mercer University this fall and major in Biology The high school scholarship is a $4000 award that is paid to the recipientrsquos college or university in installments of $1000 per year
Courtney Holt of Lizella was awarded the 2015 Continuing Education Scholarship Miss Holt a 2013 graduate of Central High School is currently earning her degree in Business Management amp Marketing at the University of West Georgia The continuing education scholarship is a $2000 award that is paid to the recipientrsquos college or university in installments of $500 per year
Applicants were judged on the basis of grades SATACT scores service provided in school and in the community recommendations by teachers or administrators and financial need
This yearrsquos Scholarship Committee was comprised of Dr Ivan Allen President of Central Georgia Technical College Beth Byers Director of Development at Middle Georgia State College Cindy Cerka Local Sales Team Leader for 13WMAZ and Brenda Griffin Assistant Director of the Business Services Unit for the Georgia Department of Labor
MidSouth recently partnered with United Way of Central Georgia for their 2015 Book Fair
It is United Wayrsquos goal that every school-age child will enter the summer months with a book of their own and one that is age-appropriate to help combat summer-reading-loss
They aim to build home libraries for students and boost their literacy levels by retaining reading interest over the summer with fun and entertaining books
MidSouth sponsored books for the 1st and 2nd grade classes at Eagle Ridge Elementary in Milledgeville
