5. Future Release 4.0

Thanks to your client feedback, we have several ideas on how to make LogChief easier to learn and use. We are

continuously working on updating the user interface and, in this release, have made changes to improve the logging

workflow. Future versions need to allow for logging faster, ease of use and configuration, and an improved overall user

experience. The maxgeo team endeavors to include customer suggested improvements in each release.

6. New Features

6.1 Profile Filter

During Profile creation, or in editing the profile, LogChief will allow a user to create/update Profile filters. LogChief

will apply this filter to a Profile and a user will only see the relevant filtered data.

E.g. If you add Profile-Filter HoleType = ‘DD’, Profile will only display HoleIDs who’s Hole-Type is DD.

6.2 GUI to map columns for Distribute Planned Collar functionality

Added a mapping screen for the user to map the columns for tblDHColl & tblDHSurv against tblDHCollPlanned table.

LogChief will allow a user-determined mapping to distribute data from tblDHCollPlanned table to tblDHColl &

tblDHSurv.

6.3 Copying values for fields with similar names from DHSample to DHSampleQC

Assigning a Duplicate for a Sample will copy all the fields (Sample_Type, Sample_Method, Sampled_By,

Date_Sampled) into the SampQC table, rather than just the Hole_Id, Depth_From & Depth_To.

6.4 Deleting QC data when deleting Samples

LogChief will delete QC data associated with a deleted Sample.

6.5 Update/Delete Standards as per HoleID

If the SourceID field is mapped for Standard-Sample, LogChief will use the SourceID field to store the HoleID and use

it for Update/Delete operations when a user performs these operations from a Collar Logging View.

6.6 LogChief Interface Enhancements

maxgeo has made a few changes to the menu items on the Main-Screen and Logging-Screen. This will help to speed

up data logging as well as other operations. Please refer to the User Guide or Help file to know more about these

changes. To allow for smaller screens and more space for customer headers, some of the tools have been grouped in

the bottom ribbon of the logging interface and sync tool buttons have been consolidated to a pull-down menu in the

home screen.

6.7 Export and Import for Visual Checker

A Visual Checker definition will go along with Profiles during the Configuration export and available for import

during the Configuration import process.

6.8 Priority field consideration for Interval Overlap functionality - Relogging

“Interval Overlap check” will also consider the “Priority” field if an administrator maps it during the configuration

process. This will allow a user to re-log same intervals with different priority values.

Page 5: Release Notes...LogChief v3.2 - Release Notes Page 3 of 17 July 06, 2020 LogChief v3.2 Release Notes 1. Introduction This document communicates the major new features and changes in

LogChief v3.2 - Release Notes Page 5 of 17 July 06, 2020

6.9 Option to enable/disable triggers during Import Data & Refresh Library operations

This will help to bring in any dependent data which are inserted by triggers e.g. bringing in data for tblSampleRegister

while importing samples in tblDHSamp table. Disabling triggers, a user can now get the data into LogChief and fix it

there. Please note that this may result in a failing import operation as enabled triggers may cause errors.

6.10 Added an option to go to Logging-window directly

Upon selecting this option, a user will be directed to the Logging-Window when they run LogChief for the first time.

The user can return to the home screen by clicking the home button on the top right-hand side of the logging window.

6.11 Added an option to highlight first or last row of the Logging Grid

User has an option to choose which row they want to highlight when they switch tabs in the logging views. This

functionality will be applicable on downhole and child table-types.

6.12 LogChief will support date fields with a default value in a multiple table logging-view

LogChief will only consider the date portion for this situation, time portion of the default value will be discarded.

6.13 Other Enhancements

6.13.1 Reset "Allow Null" as per database for existing Configuration i.e. during edit configuration process, LogChief will

recheck “Allow Null” status for each field and update it

6.13.2 Added Active-Flag for the Configuration. This will help other MxApps to find out the current configuration during

multiple configuration scenarios

6.13.3 During Library setup process, on Configuration Wizard, a user can search for a library table by typing the part of the

name of the library table. This will be very helpful in the database-view

6.13.4 User can copy-paste filters during Synchronisation operation

6.13.5 Added new icons for Profile

6.13.6 LogChief supports library table in updatable-database-view’s definition. Now user can add a database-view to the

mapping during configuration process

6.14.6 Contact information and branding are updated. Installation documentation also updated.

See previous release notes in Section 7, for historical list of upgrades and fixes.

7. Known Bugs and Limitations Version 3.2.1

Description Comment

Layout designer Enhancement to add a save button in layout designer.

Error handling for exceeding

field length is not logical.

LogChief needs to capture

these errors in a more user-

friendly manner

Error when field length is exceeded for Comments Field: 'An error has

occurred please check the log for details.' Error when field length is exceeded

for a numeric field: 'Arithmetic overflow error converting numeric to data

type numeric.'

Multiple rows, predefined

holes and samples

Multiple rows should refer to the Pre-defined Hole IDs and Sample IDs lists.

Currently, the two tools for ID creation do not communicate. This would be an

enhancement if the tools carried the same entered information and less

repetition for the user.

Document # of holes that are possible to process; Investigate for any

performance improvements

System displays Out Of

Memory Exception when

entering 1000

ISSUE: Using the Multiple Row feature in LogChief 3.2 the user logging

Multiple Hole has issues recording 1000 Parent Hole IDs and Child values.

Limitation is under investigation. Best practice is that a user should only log

what will be immediately logged and synchronized with the Database;

otherwise, operations will be slow.

STEPS:

1. Open LogChief 3.2

2. Select Workflows > a Logging Profile > then a Collar Group

3. Select the Multiple Row feature from ribbon and enter Details for 1000

holes

UNEXPECTED OUTCOME:

4.System does not crash but gracefully stops with an endless loop on the

screen

5. This occurs also for 400, 300, 200 & 100 holes. No error message looks to

internally time out.

6. If user selects escape and reopens LogChief - Collars are recorded but no

child values

EXPECTED OUTCOME:

7. LogChief 3.2 should be able to create 400- 500 holes to simulate a Grade

Control scenario

LogChief installer installs

tools and MX Apps with

LogChief

Add options to install other applications with LogChief. If none are selected,

none will be installed. This gives the client/administrator control over what

can and cannot be installed and seen by a user.

LogChief v3.2 - Release Notes Page 7 of 17 July 06, 2020

8. Revision History

8.1 Build 3.1.6

01. Addition of Core Photography to StripLog

View downhole photography in StripLog in up to 2 columns. If you do not have a copy of CoreShed or

software to format your photos to view them in StripLog, we can help you. Contact [email protected].

02. Compatibility to MXSync for Hosted Clients of WebShed and DataShed5

Synchronization is an integral part of the maxgeo cloud solution. It provides a means for transporting

data from remote systems to a centralized hosted environment and for interrogating the hosted system

for relevant operational data. The MXSync Utility software provides a client-side interface and transport

mechanism for synchronizing data to and from the WebShed hosted environment via the WebShed

Service.

MXSync Utility for maxgeo’s Cloud Solution

03. Cascade Delete for Collar-Dependent Tables (Previous Enhancement for Upgrades prior to v3.1.4)

Deletion of a collar results in deletion of dependent data. Note, this is an important advantage that has

been available since v3.1.4. We did not advertise this in the past so you are seeing it now. Take

advantage and upgrade!

04. Enhanced Logging Forms

1. Property changes applicable to all the selected controls (selected field boxes).

E.g. If you select 5 controls and change font size, LogChief will change font size for 5 selected controls.

Faster editing means faster customer data entry form creation. These forms are created in a LogChief

profile. See user manual.

2. Control’s property will be set as per the database fields.

E.g. for Numeric field, Text Align = Right, No. Of Decimal Places = As per the database etc. The data

property in the database is the property for the data in the control or field placed in a custom form.

3. Set control (field) read-only if it is a calculated field.

4. Removing fields from the grid if they don’t belong to the table.

This will be a big help and save time. Now you do not need to remove the grid and add it again if

upgrading the configuration or copying the layout from another logging view. Your forms will be

updated according to any changes in your LogChief configuration.

5. When you drop a database field on a form in design mode, the controls will be placed side-by-side.

6. For Label control, auto-size property will be set to true.

Page 8: Release Notes...LogChief v3.2 - Release Notes Page 3 of 17 July 06, 2020 LogChief v3.2 Release Notes 1. Introduction This document communicates the major new features and changes in

LogChief v3.2 - Release Notes Page 8 of 17 July 06, 2020

05. LogChief supports library table in updatable-database-view’s definition. Now user can add a database-view to the

mapping during configuration process.

06. Added utility called “LogChief – Reset” which can delete a “User Config” file. This will be very helpful when a

“User Config” file gets corrupted and a user cannot start the LogChief application.

07. Improved “Delete Row” functionality especially in case of multiple screens based on same database table, using

updatable-database-view.

8.2 Build 3.1.5

01. For database administrators with multiple licenses of LogChief, this will be a time saver. If an update to MDS or

to LogChief is released, administrators can contact maxgeo for their update to their customized database,

configuration and LogChief software. maxgeo can upload this to a location of the client’s choice or the client can

download the package to their server. This file location can be added by maxgeo to the client MDS. Once this is

complete, existing licenses of LogChief will automatically detect and prompt users for software & configuration

upgrade. Contact [email protected] and consult the latest User Manual.

8.3 Build 3.1.4.1

01. Added a new “Multiple Rows” function that allows a user to create intervals for multiple downhole logging

tables in one action. The “Multiple Rows” function has an option to select existing collar(s) or generate new

ones. In this functionality, QC-Policy doesn’t consider HoleID. It works on total sample count.

02. The “Refresh Library” process has an additional verification in place when updating the table data. When

“Refresh Library” is selected, and if LogChief encounters a table to update which is part of the configuration,

LogChief will not delete/update data for those configuration tables. LogChief will now only bring in required

records to complete the library operation.

E.g. Configuration Database: Configuration Tables - tblDHColl, which has 3 records H001, H002 & H003

LogChief-System Database: User added tblDHPhoto to the “Refresh Library” operation in

tblSysLibraryTableList table. tblDHPhoto is not part of Configuration. Table tblDHPhoto references tblDHColl

as library table for “DataSet” and “Hole-ID”

MDS: tblDHColl has almost 100 Hole-IDs from H001 to H100

tblDHPhoto has 10 rows which required Hole-ID H003, H004, H005 & H006 in tblDHColl

Now if you select “Refresh Library”, LogChief will bring 10 records for tblDHPhoto table and also bring in

H004, H005 & H006 in tblDHColl table. H003 already existed in the Configuration database so will not be

affected.

03. In the LogChief Settings, an option is added to set the display format for “DateTime” and “DateTime2” SQL

Data-Type. Previously Logchief would take the Long-Date format from regional setting.

The default format is “dd/MM/yyyy”, which will display date like 28/03/2018.

04. The Hierarchical Logging tables are easier, with the following enhancements:

a. User can make selection at any level during the hierarchical data logging and respective column value(s)

will be automatically set.

b. Users can type directly into a column which is part of a hierarchy.

Page 9: Release Notes...LogChief v3.2 - Release Notes Page 3 of 17 July 06, 2020 LogChief v3.2 Release Notes 1. Introduction This document communicates the major new features and changes in

LogChief v3.2 - Release Notes Page 9 of 17 July 06, 2020

c. When user types the value for any level in a hierarchy, LogChief will search the values for previous

levels and fill them in automatically for corresponding levels.

d. On the logging screen an option has been added to hide the hierarchy control. This will assist with

typing entries directly into a field without selecting from hierarchy list.

09. Removed “Default Mapping” screen from the “Configuration Wizard”. User can see the “Default Mapping”,

from the Mapping Creation Screen, like other mappings.

10. User can delete the “Locked Records” directly from the logging screen.

11. During the “Refresh Library” process, LogChief will not disable the triggers for the tables mapped with a project

and dataset table-type.

12. Added an option to reset the status of all the triggers and foreign keys on the configuration database to the last

established position.

13. A “Cascade Filter” selection status has been added to the Filter Screen.

14. A new user friendly screen to configure library filters has been added.

8.4 Build 3.1.4.0

01. The logging form can display an image and save an image for an interval.

02. The “Set Verify Status – User” privilege can be set to Verify Record, which will lock the record from further

modification. These records will still be available for the synchronisation process.

Page 10: Release Notes...LogChief v3.2 - Release Notes Page 3 of 17 July 06, 2020 LogChief v3.2 Release Notes 1. Introduction This document communicates the major new features and changes in

LogChief v3.2 - Release Notes Page 10 of 17 July 06, 2020

03. Added Automated process to verify records which will result in the same as Point 02 above.

04. Ability to set up more than one LogChief System Database on a server, or different servers, and switch between

them using a single click feature.

8.5 Build 3.1.3.2

01. Support for DateTimeOffset data type

02. Refresh Library Update – Ignoring the tables which are part of the configuration

8.6 Build 3.1.3.1

01. Tablet friendly settings, scroll type and scroll width (user options menu)

02. Added various regional setting options for Spanish and French

8.7 Build 3.1.3.0

01. Added an option to choose columns to appear on dropdown libraries on the logging screen.

During the profile operation, on “Library Tables” screen, “Format Cell” will display all the available columns for

the library table and will allow the user to select the desired one.

02. Removed “Display Filtered Columns ...” option as item described in Change 01 above will cover this.

03. Username/Password can now be saved for the SQL Authentication of the LogChief-System-Database

Connection.

8.8 Build 3.1.2.3

01. Added an option to import contracts directly; only available for MDS 4.6.2 SP1 and above.

02. Logging Screen – Filter dropdown libraries with the header values. This functionality only applicable to the

library table which belongs to the same mapping.

03. Logging Screen – Refreshing the drop down libraries after every save operation. This functionality only

applicable to the library table which belongs to any mapping, not for (tblLib* or tblSys*)

04. Logging Screen – Drop down library values can be searched on multiple columns and can use “Contains”

operator.

05. Logging Screen – Sorting on the logging grid is allowed on multiple columns excluding the Field01 and Field02

columns. By default, the sorting will be on Field01 and/or Field02 column.

06. Added two new options to “Options ... Logging Window” Tab.

“Add Null Row to Libraries” will add an empty first row to all the libraries.

Page 11: Release Notes...LogChief v3.2 - Release Notes Page 3 of 17 July 06, 2020 LogChief v3.2 Release Notes 1. Introduction This document communicates the major new features and changes in

LogChief v3.2 - Release Notes Page 11 of 17 July 06, 2020

“Display Filtered Columns ...” will add column(s) to the library drop down, which the user has selected to filter

the library data in the Profile Wizard.

8.9 Build 3.1.2.2

01. Import configuration(s) from previous LogChief versions and builds.

02. Bring Database-View as it is from DataShed Database to Configuration Database if it is used in the Configuration

(LogChief used to convert it to the table).

03. Adding extra field “FieldID 02” for Parent & Child table-types. This will allow Child table-type to have up to 5

headers.

04. Cascade DataSet filters for all the profiles.

05. Caption for header dropdown on the logging screen displays “Field Alias Name”. User can change this anytime

during logging, using “User Settings”, or while creating a profile.

06. Custom Layouts Designer Screen - DataSource Window shows the fields in their different colour codes, they are:

This will be helpful when the user is creating the form for merged view, as all the Required fields and Default

fields must be on the grid or form.

Adding a required field on the Form will make its respective caption colour RED.

Page 12: Release Notes...LogChief v3.2 - Release Notes Page 3 of 17 July 06, 2020 LogChief v3.2 Release Notes 1. Introduction This document communicates the major new features and changes in

LogChief v3.2 - Release Notes Page 12 of 17 July 06, 2020

Build 3.1.2.2 (cont’d)

07. “Alias Names” and “Column Width” will be used for the Custom Layout Grid. The User can change the width

using “User Settings” option, it will only be applicable when the user closes the “Logging Window” and opens it

again.

08. Added the option to show/ hide SQL Server Reporting Service plug-in.

09. Adding “StartDateTime” and “EndDateTime” fields for all Table- Types. Columns mapped with these fields will

work like “mFrom” and “mTo”

10. The Logging Screen will be refreshed after group change, tab change and save operations.

This will make sure the user always sees the updated data (even if the data got updated through trigger(s)

(e.g. tblDHSample & tblDHSampleQC)

11. The suffix values for HoleID and SampleID have increased from 10,000 to 2,147,483,647, allowing more values

to be generated.

12. Changed the menu caption for library options (Refresh, Import & Export). They are now located under the

“Configuration Library” menu option.

13. Scroll functionality for configurations and workflows on the main screen.

14. Cascade filters for Import Data - If this option is ticked, LogChief will cascade the filters and show the relative

data for every column.

8.10 Build 3.1.1.0

01. Visual presentation of row status on the Logging Screen. E.g. New Row, Synchronised, Locked and Modified

For the View, it will always display the same icon because View is a multiple table entity with LogChief unable

to combine the Row Status.

02. Mapped table can now be used as a Library table for other mapped tables

E.g. tblDHSamp can be used as Library for tblDHSampQC > Original_Sample_ID

03. Option to map “DataSet”, “DepthFrom” and “DepthTo” columns for Parent and Child Table-Types.

This will allow LogChief to filter the data, on the basis of DataSet Filters, for Parent and Child Table-Types.

04. Adding mFrom and mTo for Copy record and AutoIncrement for Multiple Record.

05. Changing Table- Type “Surface Sample” to “Point Sample”.

06. Configuration Library expansion. Importing data for all the foreign key tables for Configuration Tables and if

this FKT references another table, LogChief will import the data for that table too.

07. Adding “Options Screen” and moved all the generic operations to this screen e.g.

Synchronise Options, LogChief-System-Database option, Company Logo, and Logging Window Options.

08. Language selection option moved to the top right hand corner of the main screen.

09. Adding languages as per the regional settings e.g. English (Australia), English (USA) etc.

Page 13: Release Notes...LogChief v3.2 - Release Notes Page 3 of 17 July 06, 2020 LogChief v3.2 Release Notes 1. Introduction This document communicates the major new features and changes in

Build 3.1.1.0 (cont’d)

10. Displaying workflow names in Español and Français languages.

11. Lock record does not allow the “Paste” operation. User can still copy the data for a new row.

12. Adding “Browse Folder” functionality to the Logging Screen- This functionality will insert the chosen folder

path into the selected cell.

13. Adding “Browse File” functionality to the Logging Screen- This functionality will insert the chosen file path

to the selected cell.

14. Option to “Disable Table Triggers” for “Clear Data” Operations-

LogChief will not disable the Table Triggers for "Clear Data" and "Clear Synchronised Data" operations. This

may cause for errors and fail the clear operations.

If the clear operations fail because of this, user can go to Options screen and tick this option. LogChief will

disable the trigger and perform the operation.

15. Introducing LogChief Groups-Admin user can create LogChief groups- These groups are exportable. The main

use of this group is to set rights for Import Data, Delete Data and Synchronise Data.

It also allows admin to set rights for “Modify Import Data”. This feature will restrict the user’s ability to modify

imported data

8.11 Build 3.1.0.0

01. Introducing mappings- In earlier versions there were two default mappings per Configuration, Collar Mapping

and Surface Sample Mapping. From this version the user can create as many mappings as they require.

We are also introducing new Table Types- Parent and Child

other table in same row.

b. Delete the row if any of the table contains a locked row(s). User can still delete the non-locked row data by

deleting it from specific cells.

07. Data logging fixed for “DateTime2” SQLl data type.

9.7 Continued from previous LogChief versions

01. Selecting the dataset while logging (from the dropdown menu) will filter both the visible records and the loaded

records in the LogChief backend. This has improved the speed of loading data when switching between logging views.

02. Hierarchical logging can be done using either of the two methods (selected through Tools -> Logging Window Setup):

a. If the box is checked the hierarchy follows a flowing tree format where hovering the mouse over one value

will open all of its dependent values. This can be accessed by clicking on the ‘…’ button in any of the

hierarchical fields.

b. If the box is unchecked, then each field is populated individually with the values appearing in the dropdown

of dependent fields being limited based on the selection of previous hierarchical fields. This is the same as

how hierarchy appears using Excel.

03. Views with Update Triggers can now be used for logging into in LogChief. Logging into an updatable view will

distribute the data between the relevant logging tables in the database.

04. Incorporate the option to rotate the column headers in the logging view to vertical (through Tools ->Options...

Logging Window Setup Tab). Tick the box next to ‘Vertical Text on Column Header’ to activate.

05. Visual modification – Synchronisation status bar position fixed and progress is an accurate representation of how many

records (out of the total amount) have been synchronised.

06. When a new Library, column or FK has been added, the FK link will automatically be generated the next time the

configuration is edited. (Relates to Change # 13 in the bugs list).

07. LogChief now supports fields that are defined as ‘Computed’ in the Main Database. For these to work they will need to

be set as ‘allow null’ in the Configuration setup.

08. The import from the database utility has been modified so that data from Computed columns and its columns are

included.

09. Synchronisation of computed columns into the Main Database.

10. Filter users based on whether they are set to active or not and also on their permissions (read, write, edit, synchronise,

etc.).

11. Removing a table from the configuration no longer removes all the keys from the backend SQL Database.

12. For Upgrade from 2.X – Library values from the Main Database are refreshed automatically on importing the

Configuration

13. Single Import Utility for all LogChief Versions – no longer ‘Import’ and ‘Import from Previous Version’.

14. Create ‘Read Only’ views for logging so that data from the database can be viewed alongside logged data but not

modified or entered.

15. Importer automatically selects all the Profiles that are in the same folder as the Configuration file.

16. New configuration retains the original trigger status. User can change it if they want to.

17. Removing user related Views during the configuration.

18. The manual scale function for the grid view is fixed.

19. For the QCPolicy tables, defaults will work as per the individual tables e.g. If you declare a Default Value for

DownholeSampleQC table, LogChief will ignore the default value for DownholeSample table.
