PRESENTATION
GEQUALTEC is the group that teaches and researches in the field of Construction Management at FEUP. This activity must be very well coordinated with engineering, with the relevant legal framework and with construction and building practices. In this area, GEQUALTEC has developed R&D activities, like ProNIC and SIGABIM. These projects have already yielded re-sults that can be shared.
In addition, the National framework of construction activity su-ffered significant changes due to the entry of new laws (such as the Public Procurement Code), supplemented by other laws that better define the content of projects, staff responsibilities and that require the use of electronic platforms for public pro-curement. On the other hand, the contraction of the construc-tion activity underlines the need for all operators to become more efficient (efficiency gains and cost reduction).
As we all know, the construction industry handles significant amounts of information of various types and proper manage-ment is essential to achieve its stated objectives. It was, there-fore, decided to adopt ‘Information Systems in Construction’ as the main topic for GESCON 2011, in order to promote the awareness of its importance to members of the community, to promote national discussion on this topic, to present inno-vative practices and to sensitize policymakers to relevant and strategic issues.
We expect participation and contributions from different ba-ckgrounds, academic, professional, design, construction and construction supervision as well as software and electronic pla-tforms developers.
GESCON 2011 will include interventions by leading figures in the construction sector, short conference presentations and training workshops. This event will surely be innovative. We hope to see you in Porto on the 27th and 28th of October!
