Religious Discrimination

Religious Discrimination, a type of discrimination that other religions have towards different religions. In the past there have many incidents of discrimination such as the holocaust. It happens very often, even today there are many acts of discrimination. Even little things like not accepting another person from a different religion into your church. In this photo essay, I will show the different events that occurred displaying religious discrimination.

Holocaust

The Holocaust displayed many acts of religious discrimination such as discrimination against the Jewish people. The Nazis killed all the women and children of the Jewish people and kept only the Jewish men to work for them. Hitler and his men showed discrimination towards all people who are Jewish or not of their kind. They had the mindset of thinking that the Jewish and other religions are not like them, yet they are all men.

Many innocent Jews died during the Holocaust because they were not like the Nazis. The Nazis killed approximately 6 million Jews, which is two-thirds the European population and two-fifths of the Jews in the whole world. Not only were the Jews killed, but many other people of different races and religions were slaughtered and executed.

Holocaust Continued…

Even though the Holocaust ended, many Jews still died because of their religion. They were different to the Nazis, but really they come from same backgrounds. They had to wear a yellow star to differentiate themselves from the rest.

Genocide in India

This incident in India killed many Muslim people by their government just because they believed in a Muslim Religion. The government issued a boycott against all Muslim people stating that all the Muslims were to be killed. Only the small non-government organizations donated supplies to help the Muslim people, and mostly everyone in India supported the government.

Genocide in India continued…

The Government in India did not like the Muslim Religion. They bombed and destroyed all the churches and houses. They killed many Muslims because they did not want any more Muslims in their country.

In Israel, many schools are segregated by religion. The schools would not even let another child of different religion in. The schools would not allow any children to associate with people of another religion during school hours.

Armenian Prejudices

In the early 1830’s the Ottoman Government guaranteed limited freedom the Armenians, also known as

Christians. The Armenians were still treated as second class citizens. They were never equal with the other

people with different religions.

Racism Between Churches

Churches have a tough time letting people from a different religion in the church or temple. In the old days, the person would get stoned or hung if they were caught in another church. Even today there is still a prejudice feeling towards other people of a different relationship.

Prevention of Religious Discrimination in Schools

In schools today, the teachers do not talk about religion due to the rule. Yet sometimes the teacher can not help to be prejudice. There was one incident where a girl was reading a bible for silent reading and the teacher did not let her even read it at all yet she let another student read a different religious book.

While researching this topic, it opened my eyes to the numerous acts of religious

discrimination. I did not know of many acts. It surprised me that religious discrimination

is still happening today. It has made my perspective of different religions more open

to accept.
