Emergency Information
Cincinnati
National Hotline
Drug and Poison Information
513-636-5111
1-800-222-1222
Calling the drug and poison hotline will connect you with professionals that are trained to provide life-saving information for human and pet poisoning incidents, as well as helpful information for suicide attempts, medication errors, chemical spills, product misuse and drug interactions.
Calling the national hotline will automatically connect you to your local poison center.
Weather
Cincinnati is known for its volatile weather. In the winter, it can be 30 degrees one day and 60 the next. So it's always good to be prepared for any kind of weather that may quickly pop up: tornados, torrential down pours, severe thunderstorms, hail, and wind or snow storms.
There are a few ways to keep an active pulse on the weather:
• Download a weather app that will alert you to severe conditions, such as the Weather Channel app.
• Purchase a weather radio and monitor a National Weather Service's NOAA weather radio station.
• Tune in to local news channels for severe weather updates: Channel 5 (WLWT), 9 (WCPO) and 12 (WKRC).
• Listen for Hamilton county's severe weather sirens. The sirens go off in two instances: 1) when there is a severe thunderstorm warning AND a tornado watch; 2) when there is a tornado warning.
• Note that the sirens are tested on the first and third Wednesday of each month at noon.
For information on how to prepare for severe weather conditions, visit FEMA's Natural Disasters site.
7
Flooding
Floods can emerge slowly, or happen in a flash with little-to-no warning. It is important to know if you are in a flood zone, and if so, how to be best prepared for the worst scenario:
• Purchase flood insurance through a local agency or contact the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) at 1-888-379-9531.
• Be alert to river and flash flood watches and warnings issued by the National Weather Service and announced on the NOAA weather radio and on local radio and television stations.
• Visit the FEMA's Flood preparedness site for tips on what to include in an emergency kit and how to develop a family communications plan.
• Know flood safety tips:
• Move to higher ground or upper floors in buildings
• Do not walk or drive through moving water (FEMA):
• Six inches of water can cause your car to stall, or may cause you to lose control.
• One foot of water can float many vehicles.
• Two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles, including SUV's and pick-up trucks.
• Do not try to drive on flooded roads - it is not always obvious how deep the water is, and the road bed may be washed away.
• Be cautious driving at night when it is hard to recognize flood dangers.

Securing a Drivers License
New Ohio Resident
If you are a new Ohio resident and already have an out-of-state drivers license you will need to visit a Driver Examination Station for a knowledge test and vision screening. To prepare for the knowledge test, download and study the Digest of Ohio Motor Vehicle Laws. The driving test is typically waived for new residents that have a valid out-of-state license.
You will also need to show proof of full legal name, date of birth, Social Security number, proof of legal presence (U.S. Birth Certificate, valid U.S. Passport/Passport Card, Naturalization Papers, USCIS documents), and proof of residency. Visit Ohio's Bureau of Motor Vehicles for a list for acceptable identification documents.
For more information on what you need to do to obtain a new license and for information on vehicle titling and registration, go to Ohio's Bureau of Motor Vehicles page for new residents.
New Kentucky Resident
If you are a new Kentucky resident and already have a valid out-of-state drivers license, you will not be required to take any tests to get a Kentucky drivers license. You have 30 days to go to a County Clerk's office to get your new license. You will need to bring proof of your Kentucky residency (such as a utility bill, rent agreement, or deed), your birth certificate, Social Security card and your out-of-state license.
You will also need to visit a County Clerk's office to register your car. What you need to bring will depend on if you own or lease your car.
For more information on what you need to do to obtain a new license and for information on vehicle titling and registration, go to Kentucky's Department of Motor Vehicles page for new residents.

National Emergency Number - 911
911 in the number to call to get help in an emergency. A 911 call is transmitted over dedicated phone lines to the emergency agency (police, fire, sheriff) assigned to the city or area you are calling from. A trained dispatcher will then send emergency help as needed.
How to dial 911 • Stay calm • Make sure you know your exact location and address of the emergency • Pick up the receiver or turn on the phone and wait for the dial tone • Press "9" then "1" and then "1" again • Wait for the ring and the 911 dispatcher will answer
From www.911.gov:In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number immediately from any phone.
An emergency is any situation that requires immediate assistance from the police, fire department or ambulance. Examples include: • A fire • A crime, especially if in progress • A car crash, especially if someone is injured • A medical emergency, such as someone who is unconscious, gasping for air or not breathing, experiencing an allergic reaction, having chest pain, having uncontrollable bleeding, or any other symptoms that require immediate medical attention
Important: If you’re not sure whether the situation is a true emergency, officials recommend calling 911 and letting the call-taker determine whether you need emergency help.
When you call 911, be prepared to answer the call-taker’s questions, which may include: • The location of the emergency, including the street address • The phone number you are calling from • The nature of the emergency • Details about the emergency, such as a physical description of a person who may have committed a crime, a description of any fire that may be burning, or a description of injuries or symptoms being experienced by a person having a medical emergency
Be prepared to follow any instructions the call-taker gives you. Many 911 centers can tell you exactly what to do to help in an emergency until help arrives, such as providing step-by-step instructions to aid someone who is choking or needs first aid or CPR.
Finally, do not hang up until the call-taker instructs you to.
If you dial 911 by mistake, or if a child in your home dials 911 when no emergency exists, do not hang up—that could make 911 officials think that an emergency exists, and possibly send responders to your location. Instead, simply explain to the call-taker what happened.

Bringing a Pet to the US
Over two million pets and other live animals are transported by air every year in the United States. Federal and state governments impose restrictions on transporting live animals. CDC regulations govern the importation of animals and animal products capable of causing human disease. Pets taken out of the United States are subject upon return to the same regulations as those entering for the first time.
The CDC does not require general certificates of health for pets for entry into the United States. However, health certificates may be required for entry into some states, or may be required by airlines for pets. You should check with officials in your state of destination and with your airline prior to your travel date.
Click here for information on bringing in specific animals, including...
• Dogs • Cats • Turtles • Bats • Monkeys • Bird Species from Specified Countries • Civets • African Rodents • Fish • Horses • Snakes & Lizards • Small Mammals & Non-African Rodents
As a shipper or owner you have a responsibility to take the necessary precautions to ensure the well being of the animal you ship. For general tips on shipping pets, visist iata.org (International Air Transport Association).
