9:30 AM - 1:30 PMMLK Day Service Project: "Clearing the Path for Our Future"Friends of Refugees: Jolly Avenue Community Gardens, Clarkston, GAWe believe there should be no barriers for our children's quest to obtain an education. The 2017 MLK Day Service Project will focus on clearing the pathway for our children to walk to school safely. The King Center, in partnership with Friends of Refugees, PURE, GA Tech and the Points of Light (Fellows Program), have joined together to rebuild one of the central walking routes for the children walking to Clarkson High School and Indian Creek Elementary. Currently, the pathway to these schools is covered in mud and pine needle debris. This initiative will highlight the larger struggle for transportation and pedestrian safety with county leadership, while modeling the act of taking responsibility for the immediate solution in the midst of seeking a permanent change.
