Remembrance Day - an invitation to Remember. Each year, Scouting Ireland holds a Remembrance Day (sometimes called Trail Day) to remember past members who have “Gone Home”. The purpose of the day is to give Scouting Ireland’s Groups and members an opportunity to remember former members who have passed away and in particular those who have passed away in recent times. The day is held on the weekend in June nearest to the Summer solstice. In 2016 it will be held in Larch Hill on Saturday 25th June commencing at 2 pm The day consists of a simple multi faith ceremony in the faith and belief zone in Larch Hill The ceremony Scout Stave with Ribbons One of the ways that Scout groups remember members who have passed away is to have a Remembrance Stave which has ribbons with the names of past members pinned to it. This special stave then becomes the official memory stave of the Scout Group and can be displayed on occasions when past member of the Group are remembered. Remembrance staves form a key part of the Remembrance Day Ceremonies, and those attending are invited to bring their staves along. Remembrance Book National Office maintains a Remembrance Day Book and at each Remembrance Day Groups are encouraged to enter details of those who have ‘Gone Home’ in the past year. ( If this is their first event they can also enter past members who have also ‘Gone Home’ to enhance this official Remembrance Book Groups are invited to remember one person in particular and this person’s name will be read out during the ceremony. All Scout Groups are encouraged to send representatives to this event.

Remembrance Day - an invitation to Remember.

Each year, Scouting Ireland holds a Remembrance Day (sometimes called Trail Day) to remember past members who have “Gone Home”.

The purpose of the day is to give Scouting Ireland’s Groups and members an opportunity to remember former members who have passed away and in particular those who have passed away in recent times.
