Hello Westside Families, What a great first day of school. We really lucked out with the weather. When I awoke on Tuesday I was a bit disappointed to see all the rain falling, but by the time drop off came around we had a lot of sun shining! As your child starts the school year his/her classroom teacher will be reviewing our communi-ty values of being respectful, responsible, honest and kind. In addition, they will be practicing our school’s behavioral expectations in all of our environments from the classroom, lunch room and hallway. We encourage you to ask your child about these expectations, and en-courage you to use our language as well. By the end of the first week your child’s teacher will be reviewing our emergency drills, like evacuations and tornado drills. If your child comes home anxious about these drills please contact his/her teacher so they can help ease those fears. One major safety issue you as parents can help with is being extra patient and vigilant when picking up and dropping of your own children. We have about 450 students at Westside Ele-mentary that need to come to school and get home safely everyday and only 75 ride a bus! At school we constantly review with our students how to cross the street and be aware, but these are 5 to 9 year olds so we need your help to keep them safe. Thank you in advance for your help with this. Lastly, communication is a key to your child’s success this year. If you have any concerns please contact your child’s teacher or me as they arise. I hope you and your child have a fantastic 2018-2019 school year! Jonathan Peterson Principal

your children. If you checked the box stating that you would like the infor-

2018 KIDS FUN RUN and/or 5K Challenge

FALL SCHOOL CHALLENGE

Fall 2018

Attention Westside Students and Families,

I have attached a registration form for the Fox Cities Marathon Kids Fun Run and 5K walk/run for the September Fox Cities Marathon weekend. This is a great opportunity for our Westside

families. You can sign up for the Kids Fun Run, the 5K or both. The Kids Fun Run will

be held at The Timber Rattler/Neuroscience Group Stadium on Friday, September 21st, and the 5K Walk/RUN will begin at Riverside Park in Neenah on

Saturday, September 22nd. Last year the students that participated had a great time running and playing all the fun games.

By participating, our school will have a chance to earn a gift certificate for equipment for recess and our Physical Education program. Family and friends can also show their support by signing up as Westside participants. Last year we came in 1st place so were awarded a $1000 gift certificate for equipment from School Specialty. We were able to purchase a lot of great equipment, including our new bowling equipment!

If you are interested, please fill out and sign the registration form and return it to Westside with the payment before Sept. 12th, 2018. Checks made out to Fox Cities Marathon. Cash and Credit is also accepted.

The forms and payments will be turned in as a school. Please feel free to make copies of the registration form or pick up extra copies at Westside. You can also register on-line at foxcitiesmarathon.org or you can mail your registration form in yourself.

There is a limit of 1,200 kids for the Kids Fun Run so please return your form and payment as soon as possible. If you would like to send the payment in yourself, or sign up on-line, please make sure to write Westside on the registration form so it will be counted toward our school total.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or call Westside 739-3578 ext. 2540.

Thanks, Mrs. Phillips
