INSTALLING # COBRA-160.# COBRA-160 comes supplied with 2 x JST in line connectors + a motor “noise” suppressing BALUN core.The JST cables can be inserted in the ESC screw terminal as shown in the wiring diagrams. These JST connectors will permit “Plug’n’Play” connection with other RCS components similarly equipped connectors.The Balun core must be fitted to the motor drive output leads or to the leads you do choose to use. Close to the MM output terminals works best. See diagrams on pages 3, 4, 5 & 6.See pic on page # 7 for how to loop the motor output wires through the Balun coil.Connect the # COBRA-160 servo plug into your receiver the correct way around on the following pins:Lemon Rx Ch # 1, Rx107-Ch # 1 pin (Cab “A”) OR, Ch # 3 pin for Cab “B” on a Duplex handpiece.

POWER CURVE SETTING.The Cobra has three power curves which can easily be set by the user.1. Standard straight line response to the regulator. (NORMAL CONTROL).2. Slow start, and a more rapid rise at higher power up to full power.3. Straight line up to half power for shunting.The # COBRA-160 is delivered set to Power curve #1 above.You may prefer power curve # 2 if you like a slower start. See below.

How to set the power curve:1. With everything switched ON and settled, with the large regulator knob in the middle ie OFF position, observe the Cobra. It will be flashing in groups of 1, 2 or 3 flashes.2. To change the setting, press and hold the set-up button until the LED stays on constantly.3. Now release the button and the setting will change to the next curve. The Cobra will again flash in groups of 1, 2 or 3 flashes to indicate the new curve selected. For example, if the Cobra was initially on curve 2 and you want to select curve 1, then steps 2 & 3 will both have to be performed twice to get the power curve at setting # 1.

CALIBRATION.1. Turn on your transmitter FIRST, then turn on your loco. Red LED will flash quickly for 2.5 seconds. 2. Press & release SET-UP button to enter calibration within this period.3. If there is no button press in this time, the Cobra will start normal operation. 4. If the SET-UP button has been pressed in this time, the LED will be fully ON. 5. Press and release the SET-UP button again to proceed to INERTIA .

INERTIA. A. To bypass making changes to INERTIA, just release the SET-UP button within 1 second. OR:B. To make changes to INERTIA, Press & hold down the SET-UP button for the length of time you wish the inertia to act up to a maximum of 31 secs. The LED will now flash rapidly. The LED will be fully ON during this set up time. Once the INERTIA time is set, release the SET-UP button. Once the SET-UP button is released, power down the Cobra if you don’t wish to change any other settings.

SPEED & DIRECTION. The LED will now flash slowly with equally spaced flashes. If you do wish to change other settings proceed to setting the STOP (6), FULL FWD (7) & FULL REV (8) settings .6. Ensure the knob is at the Centre STOP (zero power) position. Then press & release SET-UP button.7. The LED will now flash slowly with unequal flashes mostly ON. Twist the knob fully CW for FORWARD (full power). Then press and release the SET-UP button.8. The LED will now flash slowly with unequal flashes mostly OFF. Twist the knob fully CCW for REVERSE (full power). Then press and release the SET-UP button. LED will flicker rapidly. Centre both knobs.9.The COBRA-260 can now be adjusted to reduce the maximum speed of the model. If this is NOT required, turn OFF the power and restart as normal. OR;10. Drive the model with the speed control, - the model will move - set the speed to the desired WARNING maximum and press the SET UP button once more. You will notice a decrease in the speed of the model as the range is adjusted. Now, power OFF and restart.

POWER PROTECTOR - If you have turned on the handpiece with the regulator away from the off position, the Cobra will not give you power until you have returned the regulator to off, then wait one second.If you the control is too abrupt or too sluggish, you can adjust the power curve on the Cobra as shown above.

OPERATING THE LOCO.Power up the transmitter first, THEN the locomotive. Wait 5 seconds for the # COBRA-160 ESC controller tosettle. From the Centre OFF position the locomotive should respond smoothly to your movement of the regulator control; the further you twist the Large knob, the faster it goes. Same for reverse.

FORWARDS - SPEEDING UP.To select forwards direction, twist the Large knob from neutral slowly clockwise (CW) i.e. to the right.

SLOWING DOWN. Turn the Large knob back to the left (CCW) to set desired speed.

STOPPING. Completely stop the loco by twisting the Large knob back to neutral.

WAIT at least 1 x second before changing direction.

REVERSE - SPEEDING UP. To select reverse direction twist the Large knob slowly to the left (CCW).

SLOWING DOWN. Turn the Large knob back to the right (CW) to set desired speed.

STOPPING. Completely stop the loco by bringing the Large knob back to neutral.

SHUTTING DOWN. When you have finished operating, turn off the loco(s) BEFORE the TX.
