Workshop Delivery Method

Remote, via Zoom Meetings Throughout Spring/Summer 2020, Teaching and Learning is offering workshops remotely, using Zoom as a platform to connect and learn. Part-time faculty with current academic contracts will receive $20/hour for each hour dedicated to the workshops. You’re welcome to register a second time for a workshop to enhance your learning; however, part-time faculty will not be paid for attending again.

We will have limited offerings the later half of June and July. Workshops are delivered on a set schedule, indicated under each series outlined in the table of contents below. Offerings are advertised on the Teaching and Learning website under the Teaching and Learning workshop schedule dropdown menu.

After registering for a workshop, you will receive an email from your facilitator at least two days prior with materials and a Zoom link. You will then receive a calendar invite the day of the workshop, which you will use to access and participate in the session. If you have any questions about using Zoom for workshops, or have not received a Zoom link for a workshop in which you’ve registered, please contact [email protected].

Ontario Extend - Technologist

The following three sessions and asynchronous activities will take you through an exciting new learning opportunity, the Ontario Extend Technologist experience. As part of a larger province-wide program, this learning experience will ask you to spend between 6 to 8 hours of your time to choose one specific technology that may solve a learner challenge in your practice. Consider the unique characteristics of your learners. Deepen your understanding of digital literacies and design thinking approaches. Design a learning experience to use a technology to solve a learner challenge. Emerge with greater strengths in selecting and vetting appropriate tech for teaching.

What can I do? Moving beyond performative allyship – PDEV0873

The grief, rage and outrage in Black communities over recent events in both the USA and Canada is profound. This moment in time demands more of all of us. We need to collectively engage in more reflection, more recognition of the ways some systems privilege some while diminishing opportunities for others, and to consider more ways we can make a difference as educators. We will imagine and enact ways of moving beyond the performative, and consider how we can engage in acts of meaningful allyship as educators.

Supporting BIPOC Students' and Colleagues' Success - PDEV0874

Understanding the unique trauma experienced by Black, Indigenous and People of Colour is the first step in helping to support BIPOC students and colleagues. Creating a work and learning space that is collegial, supportive, and nurtures professional growth means committing to anti-racist principles and actions in our teaching and work relationships. What can that look like in the college context? We will look at some tangible actions of what we can do to create a space of equity, safety and support for everyone in the Conestoga community.
