My Thoughts on
Neil Harbisson’s“Listen to Color”
…“We should wish to perceive things that we cannot perceive” -Neil Harbisson
…”To encourage people to extend their senses by using technology”
Some of the
things he said
where
He began his speech by joking about the sky always being gray in his world.
The reason for that is his condition
Achromatopsia
Achromatopsia
Achromatopsia (ACHM), is a medical syndrome that exhibits symptoms relating to at least five separate individual disorders. Although the term may refer to acquired disorders such as cerebral achromatopsia also known as color agnosia, it typically refers to an autosomal recessive congenital color vision disorder, the inability to perceive color and to achieve satisfactory visual acuity at high light levels (typically exterior daylight). -Wikipedia
A severe congenital deficiency in color perception, often associated with nystagmus and reduced visual acuity. Also called achromatic vision, monochromatism. -thefreedictionary.com
He and another scientist created an absolutely amazing device in which he can literally hear sounds in colors.
The sounds created were simply Astonishing yet unpredictable and unlikely in some cases
I very much enjoyed the speech, however I thought he could have been a tad more Interesting and thorough.
He fell short in my opinion in explaining how the deviceactually works.
I'm not even sure if the device assigns a sound frequency Or if it Actually reads one on the color it samples.
I also felt that his energy at times seemed to turn intoOver-excitement
In my opinion
3.5 out of 5
I think next time he could let the device speak for itself a bit more
Perhaps including some more samples of the devices capabilities
The tips from Garr Reynolds that I saw evident in his presentation was
#1
The lack of boring
Bullets
Also he kept things simple and understandable
If I were to compare him to Sir Ken RobinsonI’d say he is close, but I believe Sir ken Robinson definitely has an edge in content and creativity
Not to mention I also preferred Sir Ken Robinsons Topics and witty humor
A few take away tips from this TED presentation are
be creatiVeThink outside the box
Keep it SimpleWith Reasonable amount of Content
Good HumorGood vibe
And don’t be AFRAID!
