Die sentrale figure in die fresko, Die Laaste Oordeel is Christus die regter en Maria sy moeder. Maria draai weg van haar seun, asof uit vrees vir hierdie stroewe en skrikwekkende regter wat sy arm omhoog hou in oordeel. Die figure van die martelare drom saam om Christus en hou in hulle hande die embleme van hulle martelaarskap. St. Bartholomeüs sit aan die regterkant onder Christus en hou sy afgeslagte vel in sy hand. Dit word beweer dat die beeld van die gesig op die vel die portret van Michaelangelo is; dit was die wyse waarop die kunstenaar uitdrukking gegee het aan die marteling wat hy verduur net, deur tyd, wat hy liewer aan beeldhoukuns wou bestee, aan die skilderkuns moes afstaan.
