Procedure For Identifying Breaker Type

A breaker is identified by the data on the nameplate. ShopOrder or S.O. numbers were used to identify breakers until1990. These S.O. numbers were usually seven characters,constructed with two numbers, followed by a letter, and thenfour additional numbers. Examples are:

Cell Provisions and Upgrades for DS andDSII Switchgear

Cutler-Hammer offers provisions and upgrade kits necessaryto correctly modify your existing DS or DSII switchgearassembly. If you have an existing space in your switchgear,you can equip that space with these provisions. This wouldallow you to install a new circuit breaker or a DS-VSRvacuum starter replacement. Your analog metering devicescan also be upgraded with IQ devices mounted on newdoors.

DS/DSII-VSR

The Cutler-Hammer DS or DSII-VSR is a self-containedvacuum starter replacement for DS or DSII draw-out air circuitbreakers. The DS-VSR consists of a Cutler-Hammer V201vacuum contactor with series limiting fuses, a control powertransformer and an IQ-500 solid state motor protective relay.

The DS-VSR is designed for starting and controlling 3 phase,50/60 hertz, AC motors and can be applied in nearly anyapplication including other contactor loads in harsh environ-ments. It is used where an application change requires amotor starter instead of a power circuit breaker in existing DSor DSII switchgear.

The DS-VSR has the ability to accept all the typical breakercontrol functions without sacrificing the DS breaker drawoutsafety interlocking system features. The DS-VSR is the onlycircuit breaker replacement on the market that conforms tothe UL508 definition of a combination motor starter.
