PREFACE

Practical study plays a vital role in the field of Agriculture. How management principles

are implemented in business can only be known through practical study, students can be very

well aware about industrial environment like problems, opportunities, different situations etc. this

helps the student for better understanding and also gives them a chance to show their skills and

ability.

PGDM (Agribusiness) is the stepping stone to management career. In order to achieve

practical, positive and concrete result, the classroom learning has to be effectively supplemented

to relation of the situation existing outside the classroom for developing healthy managerial and

administrative skills in a potential manager. It is necessary that the theoretical knowledge must

be supplemented with exposure to the real environment.

The report comprises all the important aspects of my training and all the aspects have

been presented under different headings in the fourth coming pages. An attempt had been made

to present a report covering different aspects of my training. This report would not have been

possible in present form without the support and guidance that I received from various people at

different stages of the project.

The project reflects on what are the Consumers expectations from the company through

the medium of consumer.

I hope that the report is fulfilling all the requirements as per the rules and regulations.

Area/ Location-

Junnar

As the town is surrounded by dams and the Western Ghats, and Shyadri mountain range is in its

proximity, water is abundant in Junnar and surrounding places. Farming is a major income

source here, and mainly includes vegetables and sugar canes. In the last few years, farmers here

are also trying for other sources of income. Junnar has emerged as a major export place of table

grapes and tomato.

Major Crops-

Tomato,

Onion,

Potato,

Sugarcane,

Chili,

Flowers,

Grapes,

Vegetables (Cauliflower, cabbage)

Pesticide Market-

Junnar is Potential market for all Agri. Input companies, Market competition is high. All are

doing good business.

MNC’s working in Junnar-

Du pont, Bayer, BASF, DOW, TATA Rallies, Cheminova, Dhanuka, Gharda, Excel crop care,

Arysta, Godrej, Nagarjuna, Lotus, etc.

Other local companies also have good market.

SWOT Analysis of Bharat Insecticides (Junnar area)-

Strength:

1. Strong marketing chain

2. International Brand

3. High skill working staff

4. Quality of Pesticides

Weakness:

1. Lack of awareness in some farmers

2. Unavailability of database of farmers.

3. Unavailability of standard infrastructure to reach door step of farmer

4. Less employs according to other companies.

Opportunity:

1. Wide availability of markets.

2. Can capture market of the all crops growers/ farmers of sugarcane and

vegetables of Junnar area.

3. Enlarge the working area.

4. To achieve the large scale of market share in Pesticide industry

5. Increase the employs number according to region

Threats:

1. Strong competitors

2. New (MNC/Local) entries in Pesticide market

Page 9: Report BIL

9

Work done-

During this 6 day programme following activities we had done

Farmer Meetings- 10 (Avg. 20-30 farmers)

Field Day- 2

Posturing- Over All targeted area

Product Demo (Ignition) - In meetings and individually.

Data collected- more than 1000 farmers

Punching on farmers portal- More than 550

Dealers visit- 7-8

Recommendation:

1. Increase the no. of employees because it’s important to interact with farmers

directly, because now farmers believe on results and proper guidance.

2. Improvement in Weedicides which will control most of weeds in field. eg. For

Partheneum there is no effective weedicide.

3. Booklet and products album for farmers because they asking for it.

4. Arrange Agronomists seminar for farmers within month.

5. Packaging- Packaging material and colour of labels should be attractive.

6. TV Ads/ Newspaper ads for more publicity

7. Increase the working area in Maharashtra.

8. No. of dealers is less because of company policy so, according to me it creates

problem. In Rural areas farmers having less options of Agro. Service centres

(ASC). So it’s necessary to increase dealers and retailers no.

Conclusion-

After all, Junnar is good in Onion production as well as Tomato, Potato, Sugarcane and

vegetable production . The productivity and fertility of the land is well compare than the other

districts with availability of irrigation facilities in this District.

Hence, there is very wide scope for Pesticides to enlarge its function area; to there is no

any doubt that here lots of scope to capture pesticide market. BIL is one of the well developed

international company, which is entering in this region to capture the more market share. Initially

this company needs to increase awareness of its products in farmers or door step of farm or

mainly in ASC. BIL have lots of scope to capture this market on the basis of its quality products

rather than the others. As per my research BIL should concentrate on its dealers number which is

lower than the others.

As per the farmers’ expectation, BIL should improve and maintain its quality of products.

On the basis of quality BIL is growing very good in this area, this is the good sign for the

company’s future.
