Dear Parents, Carers, Student and Staff, As the term draws to a close, Year 11 are completing their Preliminary HSC Exams and Year 12 are counting down the days of school remaining. 2020 has been a tumultuous year for many reasons, but especially so for those students who are completing their final year of schooling and their HSC exams. Our Year 12 cohort have been incredibly resilient, managing the ups and downs extremely well and taking the constant changes and disappointments in their stride. We will be farewelling Year 12 at the Graduation Assembly on Thursday 15 th October with the HSC written exams commencing on Monday 19 th October. Thankfully, we have been able to proceed with the Year 12 Formal and this will go ahead after the completion of the exams. Flooding Update Following the flood damage to the school 3 weeks ago, we still have 11 classrooms and 2 staffrooms out of use. These rooms are predominately in the TAS and Visual Arts areas of the school. We have relocated some specialty teaching spaces; however, we will be reliant on the delivery of 2 demountable Hospitality Kitchens and 2 demountable Visual Arts Studios during the holidays to allow for a resumption of practical lessons in Term 4. These portable buildings will be placed on the northern end of the school oval and in the staff carpark. The advice we have from the Department’s Asset Management Directorate is that these arrangements will be in place for the remainder of 2020. Dear Parents, Carers, Student and Staff,

As the term draws to a close, Year 11 are completing their Preliminary HSC Exams and Year 12 are counting

down the days of school remaining. 2020 has been a tumultuous year for many reasons, but especially so for

those students who are completing their final year of schooling and their HSC exams. Our Year 12 cohort have

been incredibly resilient, managing the ups and downs extremely well and taking the constant changes and

disappointments in their stride. We will be farewelling Year 12 at the Graduation Assembly on Thursday 15th

October with the HSC written exams commencing on Monday 19th October. Thankfully, we have been able to

proceed with the Year 12 Formal and this will go ahead after the completion of the exams.

Flooding Update

Following the flood damage to the school 3 weeks ago, we still have 11 classrooms and 2 staffrooms out of use.

These rooms are predominately in the TAS and Visual Arts areas of the school. We have relocated some

specialty teaching spaces; however, we will be reliant on the delivery of 2 demountable Hospitality Kitchens and

2 demountable Visual Arts Studios during the holidays to allow for a resumption of practical lessons in Term 4.

These portable buildings will be placed on the northern end of the school oval and in the staff

carpark. The advice we have from the Department’s Asset Management Directorate is that

these arrangements will be in place for the remainder of 2020.

NSW Young Volunteer of the Year 2020

Congratulations to Jessica Proctor in Year 8 who was awarded the NSW Young Volunteer of the

Year Award 2020. Thirteen year-old Jessica Proctor makes a contribution to her community that is

way beyond her years. Jessica has volunteered for her church for the last three years. Jessica delivers

food to people’s houses who are in need and has provided administration support to meet the

medical needs of vulnerable people.

A special morning tea was organised to enable Mr Newby to present Jessica with her certificate. We

are very proud of Jessica and her achievements.

Concord High School After School Tutoring Term 4, 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

Concord High School offers a After School Tutoring program on a term by term basis. Term dates for Week 3 are from Monday Week 2 (19th of October) to Wednesday Week 9 (9th of December).

These tutoring sessions take place on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon at two intervals: 3-4 pm or 4-5 pm in the Library at Concord High School.

The program offers either private or small group tuition (in pairs or groups of three) for English, Maths, and Science. Our tutors specifically focus on providing feedback for lesson content, homework, class assessments, and general academic focused support to each student.

Note: This program is highly limited due to the availability of tutors at this time. All times and options will be discussed before final placements are confirmed.

Parents and Carers are also reminded that students are expected to come to the session with work prepared as our program DOES NOT require the tutors to create content for these sessions.

The pricing/cost of the tutoring sessions are as follows:

Private Tuition (Tutor: 1 student) $42 per 1-hour session Paired Tuition (Tutor: 2 students) $32 per 1-hour session Shared Tuition (Tutor: 3 students) $27 per 1-hour session [Shared sessions are limited due to the

availability and requirements of the individual students for the subject areas chosen]

Before and After School Sports (BASS) Program Let’s Get Physical! – Term 4, 2020

Dear Parent / Guardian,

The Before and After School Sports (BASS) Program is continuing to offer a variety of activities before and

after school. Students will have the opportunity to further their interest and develop skills in many sporting

activities. These activities will be conducted by specialist coaches who aim to improve the skill levels of each

student. The focus of this program is skill development as well as fun, fitness and friendship! All skill levels

from beginner to advanced will be catered for.

** Please note: This term is an 8 week Sports Coaching Program

** All activities in the coaching program will commence in Week 2 of Term 4** (Week commencing 19th

October’ 2020)

Each activity has a minimum and maximum number of students. This is designed to ensure small group

sizes, optimum individual attention and cost effectiveness.

The supervising coach will take every care of the group. However, your child has some responsibilities and

obligations associated with the coaching session, and we assume that your permission also involves an

undertaking by your child to act responsibly. Of particular importance:-

Students must obey the directions of any teacher/supervisor without delay or question

Students must remain within the area/s designated by supervising staff

Students must not leave the group to undertake independent activities

Please see over a permission note for your child to sign up for the 8 week program in the sport of their

choice. Please join the group to receive notices about any updates, information and/or changes that may take

place during the term. Payment of the full term fee should be returned with the permission note to the side office

as soon as possible in order to secure a placement. The P&C have kindly donated some money, offering

sponsorship to a select number of students who wish to participate in the program, but are unable to due to

financial difficulties. If you would like to apply for this sponsorship, please notify the program coordinator.
