The Short Range Numerical Weather PredictionProgramme of
EUMETNET
13th SRNWP Meeting12 October 2006, Zurich (Switzerland) Three topics have been selected as SRNWP Projects that should accompany the SRNWP Programme, with a dedicated financing for each Project. They are:
- Interoperability (Uli Schaettler)The term “Interoperability” was chosen for the ability of the different modelling systems to “work together”
- European multi-model LAM EPS (Chiara Marsigli) - Model Verification (Pierre Eckert)
Jean Quiby will illustrate the present status of these projects

The allocation of qualified human resources to the some of the Priority projects is still failing. Some concurrent actions must be take to overcome this problem:
Reduce the number of the projects Increase substantially the percentage of FTE per person.
For the success of the most difficult projects, full time scientists would be required. Considering the present situation, full time will not probably be possible but an high percentage (above 50%) must be allocated.
Training must be part of the project itself, of course when required. The FTEs offered by the COSMO members, if not expert on the specific topics, must have at least the appropriate background as a pre-requisite to be trained.
COSMO needs more specialists in Numerics and Physics
The projects for the next COSMO year must be planned/revised in this optic.
