Report on survey camp 2014
DALHOUSIE (H.P)
Motive: The motive of survey camp was to provide
surveying training to the students and to enhance their
various skills including workmanship, co-operation
abilities, swiftness and prior to these was exquisite
Endeavour.
Instruments used:- Following instruments were
used to perform activities which comprised surveying,
distributed and held by each group separately.
# Dumpy level with tripod stand
# Theodolite with tripod stand and surveying umbrella
# Plane table with tripod stand and alidate
# Ranging rods
# Prismatic compass
# Reading staff
Particulars:- Total 57 students were engaged and
present at the survey camp, which were divided into 5
groups ; each having a group leader. The group leader
was provided with all the essential equipments and
instruments.
Journey: As predetermined earlier, the bus departed from college
on the 7th of July 2K14 at 2.30 pm for Dalhousie. It was a moment of
extreme joy and enthusiasm which enfilled students. The sky was bright
and route clear, as if it itself was reckoning a great journey ahead. After
covering our way to sirsa we stooped by a dinner and the students
were provided with evening snacks . Without wasting any time we
started off again on our route. By the time we reached Amritsar it was
dark and we provided students with dinner . After that we were again
enroute and after whole night of drive we reached Dalhousie by 11:30
a.m. on 8th of July 2K14.
The accommodation and food facility was provided at Youth hostel at
Dalhousie, which is a reputed scheme of ministry of youth affairs and
sports and undertaken by Govt. of India.
Commencing with first day:- (8th of July) It was
decided that students must be spared rest for one day ,
for they were under constant journey of 22 hrs.
The weather seemed to be clear and soothing. Everyone
was in a joyous mood.
Timings were set with the collaboration of hostel rules,
for the meals and closure at night. It was really
relaxing and students went at local ventures and
explored the markets.
Second day:- (9th of july) After having breakfast,
attendance was taken and students were informed
regarding the task to be performed for the next 2
days,which was fly leveling. All the instruments were
evenly handed over among group leaders and work was
started at keen 9 a.m.
Then groups were taken and shown their respective
starting stations.
Among five groups 3 were headed towards khajiar road
and 2 towards banikhet road. The groups performed fly
levelling for about a mean distance of 6 kilometers.
They were well provided with meals and frolic time,
after they had their day’s work done.
The next task was triangulation under which 5 station
points were provided just in front of the youth hostel.
Under this activity, errors in horizontal angles and in
base line were eliminated by students.
Sunday :- (13th of July) on the consent of students, a trip
for khajjiar was organized. Early morning at sharp
8.45 a.m via private cabs students were taken to
dainkund temple followed by khajjiar. It was certainly
a moment of lavishing beauty and peace. What a
beautiful spot! Students were allowed to roam n see for
themselves whatever they wished. After having lunch
cabs left khajjiar at 3 p.m for kalatop national park
where students got information regarding local wildlife
from guides and enjoyed the natural habitat of wild
animals and awesome weather there. Additive to this,
there were rest houses built since 1925.
After one full day of joyous temperament and exploration students
were again motivated to complete the rest of the work.
On 14th of July :- Instructions were given to perform
contouring and to prepare contour map of the premises
provided.Total time of 2 days was given for
preparation of map.
Having the faith and regular supervision the sheet
work came to an end by evening of 15th
Hence further the activity regarding vertical heights
was given, which was completed by students with full
enthusiasm upto evening and accoding to plan proposed
by students we departed from Dalhousie at 10 p.m
overnight and headed to Amritsar.
We reached Amritsar by 6 a.m in the morning and with
the consent of teachers, students were allowed to stay
at Amritsar to visit Golden Temple and Jallianwala
bagh.
It was really breathtakingly beautiful and so neat that
we can call up the Golden Temple another heavenly
wonder. Loads of pilgrims in and out. As decided, we
departed at 1 p.m from Amritsar. After a long journey
back we reached Haryana. The students, on consent of
their parents were dropped at their respective stations.
Bus arrived college at 11.15 p.m, nighttime on 17th of
July.
Remarks and response of students: According to
students the trip was full of enjoyment and
enthusiasm. There was so much to get in those 10 days
and surely they attained what was meant to be. The
practical knowledge of surveying was precisely and
interestingly attained by students with the concern of
teachers.
Overall it was a complete package and if you ask,
nobody could define this tour in single word except for
“THE INCREDIBLE CAMP “
