REPORT ON AIREA’S PARTICIPATION IN 25TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION OF GULFOOD 2020

HISTORY OF GULFOOD EXHIBITION 25 years ago, the world had started to think about publicizing food and food products on global platform because the period of globalization had started taking shape. Though good quality exhibitions and events were already being held across the globe. But inception of Gulfood event raised the bar of international exhibitions and it has today acquired the status of one of the most prestigious events in the food sector.

The UAE is the world's third largest re-export market. The country trades with more than 220 countries, and is a key food re-export hub in the Persian Gulf region. Gulfood is one of the world's largest food exhibitions. This year’s event featured more than 5,000 exhibitors from 100 countries.

Gulfood has continued to pay a pivotal role in connecting nations and suppliers, opening distribution channels for industry related business and highlighting Dubai’s strategic role as a key trading hub for the global food industry.

The excellent logistics and infrastructure facilities in Dubai have lent credence to the event and have sustained the presence of global food businesses year after year.

THE VENUE Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), with about 1 million sft space is a prime hub of event activities in Dubai. It is also the only events venue in the Middle East certified by Green Globe. Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) continues to demonstrate its long-standing commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and contributing positively to society. His Excellency Helal Saeed Almarri, is the Director General, Dubai World Trade Centre Authority (DWTCA) and Dubai Tourism. Dubai World Trade Centre has adopted a set of effective policies and strategies that integrate efforts to achieve sustainability across the venue.DWTC has also developed an active Waste Reduction and Redirection program, part of which included training 700 staff members at DWTC on waste management. To encourage everyone to embrace the notion of reduce, reuse and recycle, DWTC has developed ‘green guides’, which advise organizers and contractors on how to run and build sustainable exhibition stands.

The event was interspersed by concurrent activities such as :

(a) STREAT – to showcase peculiarities of various street foods (b) TASTES OF THE WORLD- focusing on live cooking of innovative

international foods by star chefs from across the globe. (c) Gulfood Innovative Summit- which was aligned with the theme of the

exhibition “ Rethinking Food” . The aim is to evolve foods that are sustainable and eco friendly. the event spanned three days from 17th to 19th of February, 2020 in which more than 60 greatest minds in food, media, marketing and research came together and deliberated on sustainable future for food. INAUGURATION OF THE GULFOOD2020 EVENT

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, on Sunday opened Gulfood 2020, the landmark 25th edition of the region’s longest-running annual food and beverage (F&B) trade show at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

Union Minister of Food Processing Industries, MrsHarsimrat Kaur Badal inaugurated India Pavilion at GulFood 2020, Dubai, On 16th February, 2020. She was accompanied by Embassy of India officials. She also held discussions with food companies present at the event on one-to-one basis about the potential of business opportunities in India.A proposal was also mooted to explore possibility of setting up a fund to provide marketing support to launch Indian products in the Gulf nation's super markets.

During the discussions with the India UAE Food security corridor project representative, MrsBadal proposed that existing Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI) supported infra may be utilized to give a head-start to the

project.

MrsBadal also took a tour of the fair and interacted with the Indian exhibitors and urged them to make use of the platform of GulFood 2020 for facilitating tie-ups between foreign investors and accelerate the pace of export of food products from India to the western market.

AIREA’S PARTICIPATION IN GULFOOD 2020 AIREA has been a regular participant in Gulfood and, therefore, this year also it was allocated a 16 sqm stand space which was coupled with additional 8 sqm space of APEDA to form a composite 24 sqm area. AIREA Stall No Was Z3-E 38. AIREA was represented at the event by MrVinodKumaarKaul, Executive Director and MsNehaRawat , Office Executive.

AIREA stand was tastefully decorated with posters depicting different activities of the organization. A Basmati rice film was also being run on LED wherein all the gamut of activities related to agronomic practices adopted for cultivation of the scented grain.

RIBBON CUTTING AT AIREA STAND On 16th February, 2020, inaugural day of Gulfood 2020, since President, MrNathi Ram Gupta was to arrive in the evening, two senior office bearers – MrRamneek Singh (Suppletek Industries Pvt Ltd) and MrSushil Jain (Veer Overseas Ltd), both Vice Presidents were requested for ribbon cutting at AIREA stand which they very generously accepted. After ribbon cutting, the team had a brief round of discussion at the AIREA stand whereMrKawaljeet Singh of Suppletek Industries Pvt Ltd and MrMohit Gupta of Bharat Industrial Enterprises Limited, MrHitenBhimani of Gajanan Industries MrPankajGoel of KS Overseas and MrNareshGoel of Aishwarya Industries were also present.

In business for more than 4 decades the company, with its Haryana based unit, ensures quality in totality that makes them one of the most reliable suppliers to Middle East market in particular.

2. Veer Overseas Limited, Gharaunda (Stall NO Z3 F47): represented by MrSushil Jain, Managing Director who is also the Vice President of AIREA. He was accompanied by his son MrPuneet Jain and Mr Sanjay Jain. The company Is based in Haryana and have been regularly exporting to Middle East , CIS, and Europe

3. Shree JagadambaAgrico Exports (Stall No Z3 G37): represented by MrSatishGoel and Mr Samarth Goel. MrSatishGoel is the Vice President of AIREA. Their unit is based in Haryana and their stronghold market is Middle East.

4.Janakidass Exports (Staff No Z3D31): represented by MrDevinder Kumar Singla who is also the Joint Secretary of AIREA? He was accompanied MrJatinSinglaMrAyushSingla and MrShivamSingla. Their unit is based in Haryana. The export basmati rice primarily to Middle East.

Known as House of LalQuila the company is currently in the business with 4th generation. They export to around 65 countries spanningUSA, Canada, Australia, EU, Gulf and South East Asia.

7. Suppletek Industries Private Limited (Stall No Z2DD93): represented by MrRamneekSingh, who also represents AIREA in its Governing Body, MrKawaljeet Singh and Mr Jai Kumar Gupta, along with their full team? MrRamneek Singh is also the Vice President of AIREA. The company ranks amongst top exporters of Basmati rice from India.

8. Puranchand Rice Mills (Stall No DD41): represented by MrRushil Gupta and his team. Their unit is based in Haryana and they export both Basmati and non Basmati rice across the world. This company is driven by youngsters today

9. Anvi Exim (Stall No Z3 E25): represented by MrAnshulGarg and MrVikasGarg. A Rajasthan based company, having rice mill in Punjab, they deal in 27 different varieties of rice. In a decade of operations the company with its young brains has established the latest technology for rice processing.

13. ChamanLalSetia Exports Pvt Ltd (Stall NoCC3 105): represented by Mr Rajeev Setia, MrSankeshSetia and MrAnkitSetia. The company exports both Basmati and Non Basmati rice to around 70+ countries from their latest technology mill in Haryana.

14. G.R. International (INC) (Stall No: Z3F24): represented by MrAnkitGarg and MrSanyamGarg the two youngsters brother duo. The company began in 1989 from Panipat. Since then they have moved up the value chain of Basmati rice caring for whole gamut of quality aspects from seed to rice.

15. GV (God Vishnu) Rice Unit (Stall No Z1G30): represented by MrChuneet Bansal. One of the largest exporter of Basmati rice, the company today has two rice mills and a research laboratory, they are a Government of India recognized Start Export House.The company represents on AIREA’s Governing Body.

16. Gagan Rice Mill (Stall NO Z2 F55): represented by Mr Vishal Porwal. Established in 1999, the company operates its unit from Uttar Pradesh and maintain high quality of Basmati rice in export market.

17Gee GeeAgrotech (Stall No: Z3 D53): represented by Mr Robin Goyal and MrArchitGoyal Established in 2005, the company has its unit in Punjab. They export both Basmati as well as Non Basmati rice.

18. Goel International Private Limited (Stall NO Z3 D25): represented by MrVijay Goel a member of AIREA’s Governing Boy, and MrMunishGoelteam. They operate their rice manufacturing unit in Haryana and have been regular exporter of both Basmati and Non Basmati rice.

by MrBrijmeet Singh and Mr Rajesh Khera. A member of Mewah Group of Singapore the company exports Basmati rice and Non Basmati rice to over 30 countries.

25 RoyalstarAgrotech Private Limited (Stall No:: Z3-E27): represented by MrSahil Gupta. They export Basmati rice from their Haryana based unit primarily to Middle Eastern countries. Another example of youth energy in focus.

MrJavan Shah and MsSnehalModi. A 100 year old unit based in Nagpur Maharashtra is one of the leading non basmati rice exporters from India.

by MrAman Gupta. . A member of AIREA Governing Body, the company is based in Haryana for export of Basmati rice to Gulf sector in particular.

MrHimanshuSingla and Mr Ajay Singla. They export basmati rice to Middle Eastern markets.

37. Shree Ram Food Industry Private Limited (Stall No: Z3F36): represented by MrAnupGoyal and MrChetan Lakhani. They have their rice mill in Nagpur, Maharashtra and export non basmatirice. Their mill is also registered for export to China.

50. Bhagwati Lacto Vegetarian Exports Private Limited (Stall No: Z3 E17): represented by Mr Hitesh Mittal. Their unit is based in Punjab. A Government of India recognized 3 Start Export House .their watchword is high quality which

has made them one of the top exporters of Basmati rice.

ACTIVITIES THROUGH AIREA STALL

1. Biryani Taste Sampling

AIREA carried out Basmati Biryani taste sampling throughout the five day event. This drew large crowds to the stand with everyone having a bit of peculiar aromatic taste of the king of rice – the Indian Basmati rice. The following ten exporters contributed rice for the Biryani and the AIREA team ensured that the standee of the concerned exporter is placed prominently during taste sampling of their rice. Biryani in both Vegetarian and Non Vegetarian formats was served.

While the preparation of Biryani (both Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian) was managed through a local Indian Restaurant, rice from following companies was used for the same:

During the taste sampling, the standee of the concerned exporter was also displayed.There was heavy rushed for the biryani taste sampling from all concerned who appreciated the preparation.

2. VISITORS TO AIREA STALL

A large number of visitors flocked the AIREA stall on all the days of the exhibition. They can be categorized as under :

i) Business interests: Those who have interest in sourcing rice from India.

ii) Service Providers: Those who wanted to discuss issues like providing services to Indian rice exporters in terms of laboratory testing, providing services for traceability and geo-tagging/crop survey and other services

iii) Foreign Agencies

iv) Diplomatic corps

v) Membership: Those Indian entities who are interested in Membership of AIREA

Business Interests: Annexure-1 details out the coordinates and areas of interest of such visitors. The team met President AIREA and ED AIREA at the stall of Bharat Industrial Enterprises Limited to discuss the opportunities for carrying out the mandate of SFDA for Indian Basmati rice exporters. It was mentioned that the advantage with TUV is the presence of their officers at all the ports and it takes just 48 hours from the time of collection of samples test reports. An awareness program has been suggested in Karnal and it was decided that the same will be conducted on 10th April, 2020 between 1000 h to 1200 h where APEDA will also be invited. Diplomatic Corps Prior to departure for Dubai, AIREA had sent an invitation by Email to Consulate General of India conveying them the stall NO of AIREA and requesting for a visit to our Stand. We were informed that MsNeeluRohra, Consul (Commerce) along with MrSmritiVerma will be visiting AIREA stand on one of the days of the event. During discussions MsRohra sought various details about the direction of India’s rice exports and potential etc. She was explained in details and also the bottlenecks that are faced by trade from time to time from different countries.

Membership: During the exhibition as a part of AIREA’s role in promoting Indian rice efforts are also made to induct new members. In this direction about 15 new potential exporters have shown interest and all the desired information has been shared with them.

CONCLUSION

Gulfood is a global event of prominence which provides excellent platform for food businesses to showcase their products and generate augmented trade. Dubai is a gateway to the whole world particularly the Middle East. For Basmati rice, Middle East accounts for a massive share of 70%+ share in overall exports. Many exporters participate in the event with the sole objective of strengthening their relations with existing buyers. Though COVID-19 (Coronavirus) had developed a feeling of scare in this year’s event, some exporters backed out yet there were more than 50 rice

exporters at the exhibition. The footfall was accordingly relatively low when compared to previous editions, yet the silver lining was that visitors comprised of serious business interests. This view is shared by our members also who have been satisfied with the business aspects during the event.
