Prologue:-
“Conference means formal meeting in which many people gather in order to take about
ideas or problems related to particular topic.”
Savitribai Phule Pune University and Dr. D. Y. Patil Arts, Commerce and Science
College, Akurdi, Pune jointly organized State Level Botany Conference on Biodiversity Conservation
and Identification of Medicinal Plant in Wildlife Sanctuary at Ghatghar, Kalsubai - Harishchangrah
Wild life Sanctuary, Akole, Ahmednagar during 2nd, 3rd, 4th February 2018.This is a First Conference on
the field. This state level conference is a feather on D. Y. Patil ACS CAP.
Objectives:
To promote research and Conservation of Biodiversity in Wildlife Sanctuary.
To study the medicinal plants and Identification of Medicinal Plants in Wildlife Sanctuary.
To inspire students as well as researchers to attend field conferences.
PROGRAM DETAILS:
The conference began on 2nd February 2018 at Ghatghar- Ecosity, Kalsubai
Harishchangrah Wild life Sanctuary. All participants from Pune Universities and Other Universities
arrived at 6.00pm. At 6.30pm conference was ingauguarated by the auspicious hands of Hon. Dr. Y.
M. Jayraj ,V.C. Pravara Medical Institute, Deemed University), Hon. Dr. Pandit Vidyasagar, V.C.
Ramanand Tirth Marathvada University, Nanded. , Dr. D. R. Shirke, Dr. Datir, Dr. Mohan B.
Waman, Principal. At that time Dr. Millind sardesai, Dr. Sachin Punekar, Dr. Mahesh Shindikar,
Dr. Mahendra Khyade, Mr. Padwale (RFO) also present. At the time of Ingauguaration to Opening
the Pamphlet of Ghatghar, Kalsubai Harishchangrah Wild life Sanctuary.
Anchoring function was performed by Prof. Anjali Akiwate. Principal Dr. Mohan B.
Waman welcomed all the guests and participants from different colleges and universities.He also
introduced the Chief guests Principal Dr. Mohan Waman expressed his feelings by saying, “Having
Vice Chancellor of Pravara Medical Institute, Deemed University,Pravaranagar, Dr. Pandit Vidyasagar
Sir (Vice Chancellar of Swami Ramanand Tirth Marathvada University, Nanded during this workshop
is of great pleasure. Dignitaries on the Dias were felicitated by Dr. Mohan Waman Conver of the State
Level Botany Conference.
Subsequentily the chief guest Hon. Dr. Y. M. Jayraj Intoduced all Participants about the
medicinal plants. He said botany is the multidisciplinary subject. He also said Walk Botany, Talk
Botany, Live Botany, Teach Botany, he says this is first conference on the field, it is unique conference.
They also said the activity is quite unique and helpful to interact with experts from other institutes
too.
The chief guest Hon. Dr. Pandit Vidyasagar says that while learing Botany subject not only depend
on books but also work and study on field.This conference is different than other conference. This
conference is helpful for botanist.
Dr. D. R. Shirke Sir explained the term biodiversity and their conservation practices. He
also said about Pollution. Ingauguaral session ended with vote of thanks rendered by prof. Archana
Sutar.
Conference was inaugurated by the auspicious hands of Hon. Dr. Y. M. Jayraj,
Vice Chancellar, Hon. Dr. Pandit Vidyasagar,Vice Chancellar, Principal Dr.
Mohan Waman, Dr. D. R. Shirke Sir, Dr. Datir. Asst. Prof. Archana Sutar.

On 3rd February Early morning after breakfast we visited Udadawane sacreed
grooves. Dr. Sachin Punekar , Dr. Mahesh Shindikar ,Dr. Millind Sardesai,Dr. D. R. Shirke, Dr.
Mahendra Khyade, introduced the flora and fauna found in Udadawane sacreed grooves. They
also guided all participants regarding identification of plant and their medicinal uses. They also
explained Ethno medicinal uses of plants used by their tribal people. Along with all these
information they shown rare endangered plants occurs in Udadawane sacreed grooves. Viz,
Cyclea peltata, Mallotus spp., Colebrokia oppositifolia, etc and Lichens it is the indicator of
pollution free area . They also Provided knowledge about Orchids like Dendrobium
Barbachulum, Oberonia riverta, Dendrobium maculatum.We saw woody lianas.
We went to Umbardara and experienced their biodiversity as well as nature secretes
and in afternoon took lunch. Then we went to amruteshwar Temple, Ratanwadi . An
embodiment of the Hemadpanthi style of architecture, Amruteshwar Temple was built 1000
years ago. We studied endemic plants of Ratanwadi. After that we went to Asia’s second largest
Sandan Valley. On the same day at Night we went to Ghatghar forest for night trek
On 4th February Early morning after breakfast we studied medicinal plant present in
Ghatghar Ecosity. Dr. Mohan Waman sir, Dr. Shirke sir share valuable information about
various plants like Actinodaphni hukeri, Memecylon umbellatum, Tectaria cicutaria etc. After
that we went to Wilson Dam and saw their Electricity Power Generation. At the end of this
conference all participants had given amazing feedback regarding this innovative conference.
