STEAM DRUM [EQPT. NO : V-13-01] :
Shell Part No : 1 – Sent to PC3 on 11/12. L/seam welded, seam finish attended & shell sent to L & T on 27/12 for
re-rolling. Same re-rolled on 28/12/2012. Shape & dims cleared by MHI on 4/1/13.
Shell Part No : 2 – Shell L/seam setup done as on 14/12. Sent to PC3 on 20/12 for L/seam welding. L/seam
welded seam finish being attended.
Shell Part No : 3 – Shell rolled, both ends trimmed, WEP made & MPT cleared as on 7/12, Long-seam S-up done,
inspected & sent to PC3 on 20/12 for L/seam welding. Mounted on L/seam station for L/seam welding.
Shell Part No : 4 – L/Seam setup cleared through MHI inspection on 7/12, being sent to PC3 on 14/12. Under
L/seam welding.
Shell Part No : 5 – L/ Seam setup cleared through MHI inspection on 7/12, sent to PC3 on 15/12. Awaits L/seam
welding priority
Shell Part No : 6 – Sent to PC3 on 11/12. L/Seam welded. Shape & dims cleared by MHI on 3/12. No Re-
rolling required.
Shell Part No : 7 – Taken up for edge breaking on 7/12, WEP made in Yard as on 14/3. Under L/seam setup on
rolling m/c as on 21/12. L/seam setup done & cleared on 27/12/2012. Setup offered to MHI on 4/1 – DCR
problem, hence not cleared. Planned for to-morrow.
Top & bottom dished end petals cut, de-burred lug welded & sent to V-Tech for forming on 13/12. Forming started
at I-chem. On 3/1/2013
R. G. WASTE HEAT BOILER [EQPT. NO : E-13-06] :
1st Compartment –

o Part no-5, L/seam welded, one C/S WEP machined, normal UT done, TOFD balance. Shell sent to PC3
on 18/12. C/Seam WEP MT cleared by MHI on 21/12.
o Part No 6, L/seam welded, one C/S WEP machined, normal UT done, TOFD balance. Shell sent to PC3
on 18/12. C/Seam WEP MT cleared by MHI on 21/12.
o C/seam setup of part nos. 8+9+10 done & cleared by MHI on 01/01/2013. Awaits Welding Priority as on
date.
2nd Compartment -
o Part no-8, one C/S WEP machined, normal UT done, TOFD balance. Shell sent to PC3 on 18/12.
o Part no-9, both C/S WEP machined, normal UT done, TOFD balance. Shell sent to PC3 on 26/12.
o Part no-10, one C/S WEP machined, normal UT done, TOFD balance. Shell sent to PC3 on 18/12.
o C/seam setup of part nos. 8 + 9 cleared on 26/12. Awaits welding priority as on date.
Tube Sheet - 1st comp - Both blanks mc'ed, recd back in L & T Powai. 2nd Comp - One blank machined, 2nd yet to
be machined after re-straightening at L & T. 1st Comp. – One tube sheet hot formed – Flatness out. Second
tube sheet hot forming balance.
Outlet D.E. blank cut & sent to I-Chem on 27/10/2012 for cold forming – Forming completed, heat treated .
Inspected by MHI & received in PC3.
2 channel shells - Part nos 7 & 11 cut & sent to Powai for rolling, Part no 1 identified by MHI & cut. All 3 shells
sent to Bend & Fab for rolling on 27/12. Expected back on 5/1/13
2 channel cones, part nos 1 & 4 recd in setup condition after forming at Bend & Fab. Both L/seams of each cone
cleared by MHI & SMAW welded. Awaits priority for SAW welding.
Hydro Test Caps – Ready for setup
Nozzle + sleeve setup / welding completed, test cap setup / welding in progress.
1st Compartment baffles drilled to be de-burred, gauged & inspected. 2nd Comp – Baffles under drilled, under
de-burring.
STEAM SUPER HEATER [EQPT. NO : E-13-07] :
Main shell -4 nos 32 thk cut WEP made as on 22/12. 5th shell yet to be identified & cut. 3 Shells sent to Bend &
Fab. for rolling on 27/12. Expected back in PC3 on 5/1/2013.
Channel shell has been received in L & T shops on 3rd Nov. 2012, edges ground & identified by MHI on 22/11/12.
Both ends warm edge broken, warm rolled & long-seam setup cleared by MHI on 12/12, sent to H3 shops for
L/seam welding. L/seam welding completed, seam finish attended on 28/12. Shell re-rolled & NCR for dent
repair to be attended before offering the same to MHI.
Ship carrying the tube sheet forging has docked & tube sheet received in Powai on 22/11/2012.
Hydro test blanks under manufacture.

C. G. WASTE HEAT BOILER [EQPT. NO : E-14-01] :
Main shells, part nos 2, 3 & 4 sent to PC3 on 8/12. C/seam setup done & cleared by MHI. One L/seam welded
from O/S chip back done & C/B MT cleared through MHI on 21/12. Both C/seams welded. Normal UT of c/seams
& TOFD of all L/seams & C/seams balance as calibration block not yet ready even on 4/1/13 Same
expected to be ready by 7/1/13. Shell marking done 28/12. Re-marking to be done as hand-hole found too
near to the L/seam.
2 tube sheet blanks initial machined at sub-vendor's place & recd in SFS. Hot formed on 26/12. Shape & dims OK.
Trimming line marking done. Sent for Normalizing.
Hydro Test Caps – All 8 nos Ready. However HOLD put on 19/12 for welding with nozzle sleeve. Hold removed
except for nozzle DR3 as on 28/12
Nozzle + sleeve setup / welding completed as on 28/12, under NDT clearance.
Both Outlet & Inlet channel dished end blanks cut & sent to I-Chem for forming on 27/10/12. I/let D.E. blank being
diverted to Mahendra Dished ends for hot forming.
S. G. WASTE HEAT BOILER [EQPT. NO : E-18-01] :
Main shell material has been received in PC3 stores on 21/09/2012. 3 shells identified by MHI & AI as on 30/11,
shot blasted, same to be sent to L & T for rolling.
Shell forgings have been received in L & T ware house on 04/10/2012, Test caps under setup / welding.
The Tube Sheet, & channel nozzles have been shipped on "MSC Teresa" which sailed on 10/10/2012. Ship has
docked & tube sheet received in Powai on 22/11/12. Tube sheet barrier + 2 final layers completed & final PT done.
UT done on 19-20/12. 19 defects identified [disbanding]. Awaits weld repair plan from welding engineering dept as
on 21/12. Repairs attended & another one repair detected on 26/12. Till 28/12 evening repair plan not reached
shops. Repair attended & tube sheet setup done with channel, cleared thro MHI, TIG root run welded &
assembly mounted on C/seam welding station for start of SMAW + SAW welding.
1 no Channel forging sent to L & T yard for WEP buttering. WEP buttering completed & sent to HMS for machining.
2nd forging – buttering on taper portion done & NDT cleared. Test blank setup with forged sleeve to be
taken up.
Baffles cut, to be de-burred & stacked. Sent to Powai for impression drilling.
UREA STRIPPER [EQPT. NO : E-33-01] : NO WORK STARTED AS ON DATE.
Material for the Expansion bellows have been received at L & T ware house on 29/08/2012. Same identified & cut.
& despatched to vendor for forming on 8/10/2012. First stage cold forming done on 3/1/2013..
Baffles & main support plate material received at L & T ware house on 21/09/2012. Tube sheet has been shipped
on 10/10/2012 on "MSC Teresa". Ship has docked & tube sheet received in Powai on 22/11/12, The forged
channel shell & channel nozzles are shipped on MSC Paloma" which set sail on 22/10/2012, docked on 28/11/12.
& recd in L & T on 01/12. Shell plts recd at L & T on 08/10/12 & Channel Hem. D.E received at L & T on

02/11/2012. Tube sheet identified by MHI on 19/12. NO WORK STARTED ON SHOP FLOOR AS ON 21/12/2012.
PROBLEM REGARDING LOW TEMPERATURE PWHT NOT YET RESOLVED BETWEEN L & T & MHI AS ON
28/12/2012.
ARREARS OF CONCERN :
1. L & T is still not giving full attention to the SG WHB & Steam Super Heater due to
manpower constraints .
2. R.G. W.H.B. BY-PASS PIPE :– NOT YET ORDERED. THIS COMPONENT IS NOW
BECOMING VERY CRITICAL. L & T has requested MHI if pipe tested at zero degree
centigrade can be accepted. MHI comments awaited for ordering.
3. Urea Stripper : No work has been started on the Urea stripper even though all shell
material & main supports materials are available in L & T stores since 8/10 & 21/9
resp. The work on the Dished ends can also start which have been received on 2/11.
The Tube sheet have been received at L & T works on 22/11 [have been identified
only on 19/12] & Forged channel / nozzles on 1/12. These components must be
worked upon immediately as the same are on the critical path of manufacture. L & T
& MHI MUST RESOLVE THE HEAT TREATMENT PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY, as L & T
is claiming that they cannot proceed with start of fabrication till the same is resolved.
4. S.G WHB – Tube sheet was received at L & T works on 22/11/2012. Same was given
to shops on 25/11/2012. Barrier layer overlay started on 4/12/2012. Same PT cleared
on 7/12/2012. As on date, 04/01/2013, the C/seam between the channel & the tube
sheet is just taken up for SMAW+SAW welding. HENCE RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING
OF THE CRITICAL PATH OPERATION WE ARE DELAYED BY 31 DAYS.
5. Steam Super Heater : The fabrication of the channel shell of the Steam Super Heater
is progressing at a very slow pace. This component is on the critical path of
manufacture. As on date [04/01], the long seam has still not been offered for UT.
6. The piping material has still not been ordered till date even after having received approval
from MHI / customer quite some time back, for use of Al Kilned pipes on the job. L & T plans
to order the pipes by 8/1/2013 & same are expected in PC3 only by 15/02/2013. Hence this
item is also heading for delay in completion as per CDD.
