The TV-headed character will be more unusual. The audience won’t get to know him too well, as he only plays a figure of the performer’s imagination. The representation I plan to use will challenge the stereotypes of young men, as they are often portrayed as being obsessed with women or sex, but this does not play a part within my video- it is about the performer as an individual and his mind.

The social group that I aim to focus on within my music video is teenagers/young adults. Although there may be passers by in the background of shots, the main characters and performers in my music video are young men. Usually, the conventions of young people are them being aggressive, moody, lazy, criminals and hating ‘the system’. Within my music video I aim to portray the characters and performers in a more laid-back, casual and fun way. This will make the performer seem more approachable and likeable, instead of hostile (although still a little mischievous).

Nevertheless, I am planning on showing a quite destructive side to the characters when they smash up the TV’s, and the main performer stops to light a cigarette. Hopefully this won’t contradict the casual image I plan to create for them. It will reinforce that young people are very well known for having fun, yet this character is more laid-back and calm about doing so. The unique, spontaneous approach of the characters fits into the ever-growing changes of young people and what is popular at this current time. As a result, those who view the music video may become fans, consequently promoting the artist.I plan to use a range of different shots to represent the young men within my sequence. These include:• Hand held shots- quite shaky, audience

are made to feel like footage is more realistic, portrays the young people well as allows for greater freedom of motion during filming.

• Aerial shot- to show the character laid asleep in bed, portrays him in the stereotypical lazy teenager way.

• Canted angle- creates a feeling of distortion when the character meets his imaginary friend & when they are smashing up TV’s.

• Head-on shot- the bat they use to smash up TV’s comes flying toward the camera, enhances the sense of involvement for the audience and increases the representation of the two characters being mischievous.

• Hand held shots- A lot of room around the two characters when they are messing around, shows that the character is lonely, yet finds comfort and happiness when in the company of his imaginary friend.

• Tracking shot- following the character through various locations to show the passing-by of places around him, yet he is un-phased by his whereabouts.

Within editing, I am going to enhance the representation of my characters by using slow motion over clips will slow down their actions for both emotional and comical effect.

Using jump-cuts will show their ‘edgy’ side, as this is used to disorientate the viewer. I will also use it when the character wakes up in the morning and realises that his friend was all part of his imagination, to show his disorientation.

I will use action match in order to increase the excitement of the characters smashing TV’s and carrying out other activities, even as simple as running.

Eyeline match will be used when the two characters meet each other, to show the scene from their point of view.

Here are a few editing techniques I plan to incorporate into my production to portray the representations of my performers and characters.

The props I have used all correlate with the genre.

These props that will be included in my video will make the video more authentic and defined as a music video. The instruments will be played in the studio, connoting that the band are real as performance clips are often used within music videos.

Within the studio, I will use high key lighting so that the audience can clearly see the band performing. I will also experiment with the lighting within the studio once I have set up in there, just to see if there may be better alternatives to capture the band performing, which’ll vary the lighting a little and make the video more interesting. In the shots outside of the studio, the lighting may differ due to times of day that we capture the footage. Depending on the weather and amount of sun etc., the lighting will probably be dimmer than the amount we can get in the studio. This will add variance and increase the realism of the video. A lot of indie videos I have analysed use this variance in light and the majority of the dimmer lighting is clips in the field e.g., walking down streets.
