At each service representatives from several area ministries brought a message to the group regarding their organization. Linda Curtis Stolper shared some of the opportunities and the challenges involved in working with the homeless community of Newton through Friends in Hope, an advocacy and support resource organization, and Neighbor- Helping-Neighbor, a group helping sponsor “laundry night.” Matt McCombs from the Seventh Day Adventist Church, talked about the church’s basic beliefs helping worship- ers understand that while the two denominations’ practices differ, both congregations share a common accept- ance of Jesus as God’s Son and Savior. Pastor Meghan Davis, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, told of her recent mission trip experience living on the U.S. and Mexican border for a few days. Her experience helped people better appreciate the com- plexity of the immigration issue from both sides of the border Jan Dollinger, Noah’s Ark Preschool Director, reported on what she offers the community through her Christian preschool that frequently utilizes Holy Trinity’s facilities for programs and fundraising. Janelle Cleveland, Newton Salvation Army Captain, told of the supportive missions the Salvation Army provides in Newton and Jasper County. Capt. Janelle identified the largest program revenue sources for their program are the annual Christmas Red Kettle Program and the United Way. The Lenten presentations seemed to stimulate conversation and sharing, indicating that together we learned a bit more about the missions to which Christ has called us in serving our neighbors in the community in which we live and worship. The Lenten journey continues with a combination Holy Thursday and Good Friday services on Thursday, March 29, at Holy Trinity at 5:30 p.m. and at Park Centre Friday, March 30, at 3 p.m. Easter worship at St. Andrew’s will be at 9 a.m. Sunday, April 1 and at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity. An Easter breakfast will be served at St. Andrew’s at 8 a.m. with a free-will offering for the congregation’s 2018 Vacation Bible School. The Easter breakfast at Holy Trinity is scheduled for 9-10 a.m. Participants are asked to bring breakfast casseroles, fruit or pastries to share. Coffee will not be served following the service. AMAZING GRACE The Easter story is rich inpowerful contrasts. The birth of Jesus, a seemingly illegitimatechild, borninsqualor, livedalifeunderthreatfromtheverybeginning.Theprophet, teacherand Son of God was challenged, hunted andcrucified. Jesus experience such a dark andunfavorable beginning and short, harsh lifeandministry.

So when Easter day arrives, the tombstonerollsaway fora risenLord.OnEasterday thestone rolls away for us all! The victims anddowntrodden of this world are no longertrapped.Thedarknessofthetomboffear, sin, torture, death, pain and despair is filledwithlight. The contrast is truly astounding! Thenatureoflifeitselfischangedandtherhythmsof the universe transformed forever. A newheartbeat ofgrace flows in andaroundeveryaspect of a fallen world. Redemption is allencompassing and the justice of heavenreigns. Amazing love! Amazing grace! Truthaliveanddeathdefeatedforever!http://www.prayerscapes.com/prayers
