Types of Reproduction
• Asexual– The reproductive process that involves one parent – produces offspring identical to the parent
• Sexual– The reproductive process involving two parents
whose genetic material is combined to produce a new organism different from themselves
Checkpoint
• How many parents are involved in Asexual reproduction? Sexual reproduction?
• Are the offspring produced during asexual reproduction uniform or diverse? Why?
• Are the offspring produced during sexual reproduction uniform or diverse? Why?
Types of Asexual Reproduction
• Binary Fission– A type of asexual reproduction in which one cell
divides to form two identical cells.
• Budding– A type of asexual reproduction in which an
offspring grow out of the parent organism
Asexual Reproduction
• Vegetative Propagation– A type of asexual reproduction in one plant
grows new plants that are genetically identical to the parent plant.
• Regeneration– The ability to recreate lost or damaged tissues,
organs and limbs.
Checkpoint
• Explain the 4 types of asexual reproduction.
