Rihanna

Robyn Rihanna Fenty, known by her stage name Rihanna, is a Barbadian recording artist, actress, and fashion designer.

One option we are considering to use for the music video is Rihanna ‘Diamonds’.

My group likes this song because it’s a very popular and well known song. It falls into the category of R&B which we are particularly interested in and would like to base our music video around this genre.

In the official video it shows a range of emotions and in many images there is sun shining through when the lyrics say ‘shine bright like a diamond’. In one of the images below there is a big shine which flashes over Rihanna’s face when she said ‘Shine’. I feel this is a good gesture and shows she means what she is singing.

Also there is many different emotions throughout the video, which shows the different stages of ‘Love’ and how she feels. In the bottom left hand corner the screen shot shows Rihanna has a tear falling from her eye, whereas on the right she is walking through a burning city with fires everywhere. This means she’s a tough person and she’s been on a hard journey. I feel in a way it expresses events in Rihanna’s life, there’s always two sides to a story and in a way I feel that is what she is trying to say. For example when she’s in the water is she drowning or is she in complete ecstasy? And the hands in the video, are the coming apart or are they actually finding each other?

During the video you see her in four different environments, with each representing different elements such as earth, air, water and fire. This shows the song is trying to express a sense of hope even in between chaos and destruction. The song was released from Rihanna’s recurring theme of an unhealthy relationship.

In my group I think it would be good to use the Diamonds falling with a black background, this would make the reality seem real and go with the lyrics ‘Diamonds in the sky’. I think this would be a really good effect and we will be able to express the song more to the audience. Also I feel that we could use a flashing light onto the main persons face, this shows a bright and diamond like light, and this will be a good effect to again express to the audience the lyrics of the song.

I think it’s very important that throughout the video a range of emotions are shown, considering throughout the official video Rihanna is seen in four different environments and all different kinds of emotions are seen from here.
