By doing this method it really helps to pick out the sizes so that you can see if the font is suitable for a broadsheet newspaper, this means it would have to be neat and suitable overall. After looking at each one I found that the American typewriter font would be really good for the body font of the article, size 10 especially because it has a good balance of blackness and is a good small size that will fit in the correct columns on indesign. I plan to have my font quite small so that the main newspaper name and smaller titles will help to sell the article. I have found that by having a smaller font on a front cover is better for the presentation of the newspaper, by having a medium size font will make the newspaper look to busy and cluttered with words. The smaller the font the more precise and neater it will be. For the title the font Apple Garamond Bold has stood out because each word is easy to read and you can pick out the letters easily with the flicks that it has on each letter. The serif font is much easier to read whilst Bernard MT condensed is much more difficult because it’s two squashed on the smaller sizes, this would still be suitable for the title of the article because it’s clear and has good amount of flicks for the audience to read off.

Picking Title font

I have chosen American Purpose, Apple Garamond Bold, Arial Black, Bernard MT condensed and American Typewriter because they are clear, easy to read font that will stand out in a subtle way so that the broadsheet newspaper still looks sophisticated. After researching the difference between broadsheet and tabloid newspapers I found that tabloid newspapers use massive large font that takes up most of the front page of the newspaper. I have picked out fonts like this on the left to show the difference between the tabloid and broadsheet newspaper fonts. I have found that by having thick bold font in a very large size will stand out and an audience could read the writing from a distance. This has helped me to find nice neat font that would suit The guardian and The Daily Telegraph. My two favourites fonts that I would like to use for the title would be between Apple Garamond Bold and American Typewriter, these two are the best because they are both serif fonts which make them easier to read due to the flicks they have coming of each letter. The flow each letter has next to each other to make the full word is really easy to read and will also be clear for the audience to understand also. On this page I have tried size 18 and on the bottom left I have used size 32 which has helped me to see the difference each word to see if it’s a consistent size and shape that would suit the article and title space. On the size 32 method I liked Bernard MT Condensed font because it’s close together and doesn’t take up as much room as American Typewriter and Arial Black have.

Example of names for the broadsheet newspaper

The daily demandIndependent timesThe daily newsThe SpectacleThe record newsThe daily journal

After looking at this I have found that my favourite title is The Daily Demand and my favourite font is Bernard MD Condensed. This is because of the old fashion look the font has, it has flicks on each letter which makes it easier to read but it also has the old traditional look that will look good with my chosen logo which is a crown. I chose the crown because it symbolises power and a strong organisation that an audience can trust. My favourite name is ‘The Daily Demand’ because it tells the audience that it’s a broadsheet that comes out everyday and that it’s a popular newspaper because of the reaction of it’s audience. It’s eye catching and a different name to a normal broadsheet newspaper. Overall looking at these I have picked the Bernard font to be the Masthead font and the American Purpose will be used for the headlines (American purpose is the top font and Bernard is the fourth down).

Font for the written articles

These are the six fonts that I have chosen for the articles, I chose a wide range because I wanted to see if quirky odd fonts would look very traditional and English looking. By comparing that I could see if it was better to use a different font to a normal one like Arial. I did the font sizes from 8 to 14 because I thought it would help to see if the font was easier to read when small or not. The font that didn’t work at all was the Alice in Wonderland font, this was a risk choosing this because I wanted to bring out the traditional English look like The Daily Telegraph does to there title. Instead the font was really hard to read and looked to mystical for a newspaper broadsheet cover, you can hardly see the size 8 version of the font which wouldn’t help a much older audience when reading an article. At the bottom left a did one sentence from my article that I’m going to put into the newspaper front cover, by doing this I can see what the overall look of the article is like. Again Alice in wonderland font was the weakest as it’s so small and all of these sentences were put in a size 10 font. This is to small for my article and it’s important to have a good size font so that a wide range audience can read it. I like the look of American typewriter and Franklin Gothic Book on both the sizes and on the article sentence. I feel that they are both clear to read and the words look to a professional standard that a normal broadsheet newspaper would have. They also look formal which links well with the target audience which would be adults in a full time job, also business people in particular.

For all three flat plans I will have a main image of Obama, this is because he has control of the gun law and that his opinions really matter to families like the Coleman's (which is a family who have experienced gun crime in America as there son gets shot by a gang). These are the three main images that I have chosen for the broadsheet newspapers, I have picked these because they all have a strong expression and they all look like they are showing a passionate man in his job and that what he does makes a huge difference in society. I’ve made sure that the American flag was in some of the images so that it represents how powerful Obama is, I like the first image because it shows one man in front of a flag that represents millions of people. His words and power can help prevent gun crime and my article talks about how Obama should prevent it and produce laws that will control gangs and anti social behaviour through social media and without. I want to also have an image of Lil Jojo’s family in a box next to the article so that the audience knows what they look like and there expression will really help give out a strong message with the article. These images are allstrong which will help give a pressure message to Obama saying that he needsto protect his people by not having gun crime in America.
