ALBUM COVER AND ADVERT

ALBUM ARTAs the song I have chosen is a Indie/Rock I have chosen album art to represent the colourful and opposition of popular culture. For example this album cover is anti-pop, as it shows purely art, not the singer like “pop music” album art does. This shows individuality and rather than selling a look, it sells the feeling behind the song. Individual rock is mostly written by the artist and performed by them purely out of passion - this is reflected by their look and the iconography behind the image they portray.Like their album cover, 20 Minute Loop is shown to be as individual in their sound, as in their artwork.

BLACK AND WHITE IMAGES

I asked someone their opinion of these images. “These images are concise and shows simplicity. As they are simplistic it shows that the message is strong and to the point, listening to these albums I would be sure that they have taken time in their music and not the into the flashiness that more mainstream artists do”.As these album covers are just black and white, they show that they want to spend more time into making music and not becoming famous. More simpler images also show a colder or more harsher feelings into their lyrics. For example the top image is shown to be in a harsh or desolate climate, this may reflect the lyrical imagery in the songs.

COLOUR IMAGESLike the black and white images, these show that there is a feeling behind the song rather than the fame they are trying to make. The image of the Jimmy Eat World cover reflects the albums name, as light is most connected to colour. Likewise the Bryan Adams album equally shows the impression of the emotion behind the song. Only showing the guitar on a “open road” shows simplicity but also that the emotions behind this song are what matters. LIGHTS’ original album’s show practically the same sort of image, as both use pop art and electronic art. LIGHTS’ covers shows the artistic work I want to incorporate in my album cover.

MY IMAGES

This image is thought of as “too girly” by my target audience. This shall be used in my insert of my album cover. But I shall use this for the insert and the lyric sheet of my cover.

My target audience were asked if they like these images to be my album covers. This image (left) was thought to be interesting and captivating, they thought that it would be better if the ball was more “eye popping”

The left image was thought of as too “boring” and that is doesn’t fit in what I want to portray. The above image was said to be too “mean”.

THE ALBUM COVER

The image of the flower draws the target audience to the middle image, as it is the only colour, apart from the title.

I have used the symbol of the flower to connate new life. The colour of the ball (blue) connotes peace with the sharp contrast of the background, which is industrial and rough.

For the hands, I used the left and the right as symbols of truth and fakery. As the left hand is a fake mannequins hand and the right is a real hand, its iconography shows the conflict of the truth and fakery of peace.

The title is shown in black and the same blue as the ball. This is to make a contrast between the two. Also I have made the singers name in capitals and the song name in lower case this is to make the stand out and to draw the eye to it, as this makes it different.

The image is thought to be of imagination. Many of the people I asked about this believed that the ball in the middle would be “something out of a fairytale” this links to the title of the song, as fairytales are often “pretend”. So this links with the thoughts as to what the song is and could be about.

MY ADVERT

Visit her on www.iamlights.com

For my advert I have used similar concepts as to my advert. The only colour used is that of the ball on the album cover and the title. For my advert I have decided to use the artist to sell the album, this is because many of the people I have asked would prefer it to see the artist backing their own album, but to also produce a relationship between them and the artist they are listening too. I have included a slogan at the bottom of the advert to draw the target audience to buy it. Also as the slogan is said by a very popular and critical magazine encourages the audience to believe that they would also like the artists' music. As I have included a website link, it is encouraged that the target group should listen to her music through the use of her website, to check if they enjoy listening to the artist. This will also raise the artists popularity as no purchase is necessary and the target group can spread the word of her music with the use of social networking. Also on the artists’ website, there would be a link on how to download or buy this album.
