Similarities in the Styles
Basic Formatting 12 point Times New Roman 1-inch margins Double-spaced (2.0 line spacing) Indention on paragraphs
Authors in sources are generally cited by their last name only (not their first name) in parentheses, and last name only after the first reference.
“To be or not to be, that is the question.” (Shakespeare, 1605) Eleanor Roosevelt (1932) said, “The future belongs to those who believe in
the beauty of their dreams.” Roosevelt was a powerful speaker and woman of her time.
A citation for Ruth Harrold would just be “Harrold” (not Ruth Harrold or R. Harrold or Ruth)
What would a citation for you be? What would a citation be for one of your books from the library?

In Google, search for the OWL at Purdue website. Use this to find answers to the OWL hunt document – you may work with one other person if you like.

Let’s Practice
Compile a reference list of 5 books, using APA style. Use examples from the OWL website to help you. To obtain 5 books, switch books with up to 5 of your classmates
1. Open up Word and change the default formatting to the acceptable parameters for APA style.
2. Centered, at the top of your page, type References – no underlining or other special formatting.
3. Each reference should include: Author Title Date Publisher Publisher’s location
4. Finally, check to see that your references are in alphabetical order by author last name, and highlight-all (Ctrl + A) and insert the hanging indent formatting
